Detective Jack Ryder from Florida is taking his adopted daughter to the Bahamas to see if they can find a relative of hers. Emily is going through some kind of identity crisis and expressing her sorrow and pain through anorexia. Jack and Shannon are very afraid for Emily as her illness has made her skelatally thin. When they get to the Bahamas, help in their quest is not to be easily found. And then girls start dying in a viciously horrid way. Jack is asked to help find the killer and the strangest things start happening around them and especially to Emily. Surprisingly, there is hope around the tragedies.

This is a complex, descriptive, and sad tale of slavery and murder. The snippets and story threads keep jumping from past dates to present and back again. That part of the writing is a little scattered and can be confusing. Other than that, this is a fascinating read!

can't Jack enjoy a vacation in peace?

Wow! This was hard to put down - as I find all books I've read by Willow Rose! Jack can't seem to have a peaceful vacation with his daughter Emily... because murderers have no respect for others' schedules right?!

I enjoyed reading this story because the author writes a wonderful story of suspense and murder most foul! The characters are well developed and so very human... We are given a feel for the way things are in the Bahamas... and the story flows along with so many twists and turns! Very enjoyable reading!

While this is the sixth book in a series, the story stands alone quite well as we are filled in on necessary details in a subtle which still moves the story forward. However, this will make you want to go back and read ALL the books not only in this series but others by the author in other genres.

You will enjoy the author's writing style as she draws you in until you are hooked! I highly recommend this book if you like to feel the adrenaline rush as they try to stop the killer before it's too late! I can't wait for the next book!

This story is based on a true story. Jack and his adopted daughter, Emily, go to the Bahamas. They want to find some of Emily's relatives. This is also a chance for some bonding time. And Jack is hoping to help Emily with her eating disorder. They track down only one person, a woman who is in prison for murder. Jack shows her pictures. She says she doesn't know any of them. But they all look like her and their last names are all the same. Jack decides to look into the case. He finds a number of cases where a young woman is killed and her tongue cut out. This has been happening for years. But someone is always arrested. Is there a serial killer who has been getting away with these murders? Are they copy cat killers? Will Jack solve this mystery? What has Emily discovered? You really must read this book! Once again Willow has proven she is the Queen of Scream!

Usually I finish these books with in a day. But life being as it is I actually had to put it down and do family stuff. I love the Ryder family and hope to read more about there daily struggles. It was nice to see Jack and Emily get away for awhile on their search for any family members she might have. It's hard reading about Emily's issues with her wait, as I have a daughter right now not happy with how she looks. The story line was done great and to see the father and daughter bonding over helping someone to prove their innocence was so inspiring. Of course until things turn more into s mystery that they both must face and resolve before anyone else is killed. Thanks Willow for another great series and look forward to more books in all your current series you are juggling! Keep it up, but don't forget to take time for yourself. We readers will wait patiently to find out who done it!

Nothing is easy for Jack!

I liked this book soo much better than the last Jack Ryder book. The story relvolves around Jack trying to find relatives of his former police partner's daughter. The adopted daughter of Jack's ( his former partner's daughter), has a major health issue. Jack is hopeing that finding some relatives of the girl in the Bahamas, will put the girl (Emily) on the road to health. It turns out that finding these relatives is not only very difficult but almost impossible. The characters in the book and the vileness of the supposed saviors is unbelievable, but unfortunately, is also something that has and does happen even in this day and time. This is a complicated story just full of evil.

Jack was on leave since his last case was over. Now was the perfect time to go to the Bahamas. But of course the story has a lot of other little tid bits in there to keep you on the edge of your seat. No spoilers here. I enjoyed reading every word and I think you will also. I read this book as an arc program. 💜🎄🐧
