Recently I purchased one of these controllers so i would have an extra for when i have people over. It serves its purpose but it certainly is not perfect.
I have 2 original Nintendo Gamecube controllers (purple) which still work perfectly and when i compare them together the original is far superior.
So you might ask well what are these "flaws" that you speak of and I will list everything that i have found wrong or different.
1. The left joystick has a terrible terrible deadzone, which i will explain, From the stick being stationary to when you tilt it in any direction the controller should have sensitivity so if you mash the stick all the way up or just slightly move the stick up it should be recognized differently. The controller does do this but the threshold of what is a slight tap and a full mash is so small it makes things like aiming precisely, walking or running, inching forward as opposed to walking forward waayyy more difficult than with my original Nintendo controllers.
2. The left and right triggers are supposed to have a slight press and a full press function for games such as Super Mario Sunshine, the controllers have this function but there is no "click" in my right trigger but there is one in the left trigger. Nonetheless the function works but you kind of have to get a feel for it.
3. The cord is VERY short but it is the same as the original Gamecube controllers that launched with the console, since then Nintendo has produced longer cables. Nothing a simple extension cable cant solve however.
4. The Z button has to be pressed harder and now clicks unlike with my original controller which has a soft press (could just mean my original controller is old, but both of mine are like this)
Truly my biggest flaw is number 1 on my list with the joystick. It makes games like Melee hard to use up air as opposed to up smash attacks etc. Or playing Legend of zelda on the virtual console it is hard as heck to use the bow and aim (not impossible just way more frustrating than necessary.
However for 8 dollars you get what you pay for.
Only complaint really is that the Left analog or joy stick isn't as nice as some of my old brand name cube controllers THOUGH: it might just need to be broken in more before it gets looser, these things are built differently than new fan dangled "QUADSHOCK PS7" Controllers so overall if you can't find a brand named GameCube controller in brand new condition or an acceptable condition at a fair price than definitely go with one of these from Joytech!
I probably saved myself around $100+ dollars because I didn't let myself get ripped off by buying all brand name stuff, here's what I all got for my Sm4sh setup: This controller $9.40, UtechSmart branded 2.0 usb to Ethernet adapter since Wii u doesn't include a freaking Ethernet port and I need as close to my full 60 mb/s downspeed as I can get, this costed me about $22 because I had it ordered overnight haha, I also got of course an off brand 4 port wii u adapter that looks exactly like the official one and doesn't even have an off brand logo but works flawlessly from ebay here's the link it was $16.50 http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-Ports-GC-GameCube-Game-Controller-Adapter-for-Nintendo-wii-U-Super-Smash-Bros-/121588324204?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c4f3a976c he is selling it at a modest $18.50 now but took forever to get it from overseas i think from china area and lastly I paid a bit under 2 bucks for a extension cable for the controller which you can see here http://www.ebay.com/itm/371281031563?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
Not bad, the shipping probably hurt me the most cause I want my stuff fast especially when it comes to internet connections. Think I spent around 60-70 dollars American. Worth it. If I could go back I'd just wish someone would bundle these 3-4 items together to make everything even easier. Happy Smashing! LUCAS IS COMING OUTTA NOWHERE!
Summary: Simple, elegant solution to using the GameCube controller with the WiiU. Highly recommended.
