FLIR ONE is a lightweight accessory that transforms your iPhone 5 or 5s into a powerful thermal infrared camera. FLIR ONE displays live thermal infrared imagery using the FLIR ONE iPhone app so you can see the world from a thermal perspective. FLIR ONE works by detecting heat energy, giving you the ability to "see" and measure minute temperature variances. Now you can detect energy leaks, hidden moisture and other problems around your home. FLIR ONE also enables you to see in complete darkness so you can detect intruders and observe wildlife at night.

#1. Not being able to charge the phone via the usb port. If you are used to carrying your iPhone in an external case that has converted over your minifire wire - lightning cord or whatever apple calls it, that the iPhone comes with to a standard usb cell phone charger you have to go either go back and find that wire to recharge your phone or take it out of the case entirely which leads to the second design issue.
#2. The plastic piece that runs up the left side over your volume buttons is waaaaaay too thin and easily breakable.
So, you have to either a. find your lightning cord when you want to charge your iphone (and thereby carry two charging cords one for FLIR and one for iPhone) or pry the iPhone out of the ultra tight fight it has on the interior case and likely break the wire thin plastic.
Now, let me add, I already broke my plastic piece I am bitching about in section 2 and it doesn't affect the functionality. It just gnaws at me that I spent $250 and the thing is already kinda broke.
All that said, this is a DAMN nice piece of technology. I have seen nothing even close to it on quality of thermal images, functionality or battery life. I wish I could carry it on my phone all the time but the annoyance in charging it leaves me using my mophie case.
Anyways, I would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a kick ass thermal imager at an incredibly affordable price.
I took it outside at night and could see deer at over 150 feet. A fox at 80 feet was easy to see. He was only a white spot moving but a large flashlight confirmed there was an animal there.
You will be surprised at all the things that put out heat in your house.
It is capable of being a valuable tool to spot problem overheating equipment, heat and cold leaks, etc.
Wish it would charge the phone at the same time as the unit.
Can you tell the bad breaker in the attached photo?
I contacted FLIR's support and was told the following:
There is a pinhole reset button on the bottom of the FLIR ONE near the charging port. Please complete the following steps :
1. With the FLIR ONE attached to the iPhone, power on FLIR ONE ie, move the shutter arm to the middle position
2. Press in and hold the reset button for 30 seconds using a paper clip or something similar
3. Keep the FLIR ONE powered on for 24 hours to allow the battery to completely drain
4. Charge the FLIR ONE for 1-2 hours.
5. Connect the FLIR ONE to your iPhone 5 to test function
If this doesn't seem to work, this means the camera is defective. As it is out of warranty, The best way to go would be to buy a new one since we're not able to process a replacement.
I certainly expected more from a company like FLIR. Very disappointing.
