FoldyLock is a family of premium folding bike locks. Folding lock is a concept of bike locks that are made of steel links connected by steel rivets. This basic configuration allows those locks to form a circle when locking the bike and to be folded into a small case when riding - therefore its name...
The concept of the folding lock is relatively new. It was developed to join the benefits of two traditional locks - the "Chain lock" and the "U lock", both have weaknesses as well. The Chain lock is very flexible and can lock the bike to a variety of objects, but its protection level is mostly low and it is bulky for riding. The U lock, on the other hand, is mostly ranked high on the protection scale, But the same build concept that makes it so secure, also makes it very inconvenient to use - It's iconic shape "D" or "U" is solid, so it limits the variety of objects it can lock the bike to, and it is always in full size - even while riding. Folding locks, like a U lock, ranks high on the protection scale, thanks to its tough build - but it also has the flexibility of a Chain lock, due to its unique configuration. Unlike both locks it can also be folded into a small case while riding.
From the makers of Seatylock, the World's 1st Proprietary Seat and Lock Combination. The Foldylock is backed by a family of premium folding bike locks. Developed to join the benefits of two traditional locks- the "Chain lock" and the "U lock", the Foldylock mends two concepts together. Coupling the high protection of the U lock with the flexibility of a Chain lock the Foldylock is a unique locking system that is durable, functional, and adds security you can trust to your bike.
Trusted in bike security, the folding lock is made up of steel links connected by steel rivets. The basic configuration of the lock allows it to form a circle when needed for securing your bike, but when the lock is not in use it can simply be returned into its original state- a small, compact case that links onto your bike's frame. The Foldylock comes in 3 unique colors Cream, Red, and Green making for the perfect complement to any bike.

1. My new bike has not been stolen. So, that’s a definite plus.
2. It seems well constructed as advertised. If I wanted to steal my bike, I would not be able to break this thing with any tool that I own. I don’t own any steel cutting tools. So, I’m not a bike thief. Another plus.
3. It is relatively light weight and connects nicely to the seat post. Another plus.
4. Long enough to wrap around slim post, but not a Sequoia. You might need two liked together. I live in Texas. No Sequoias, but we do have big oaks. Minor issue. No points.
5. Key and lock seem high quality. Not a locksmith, but looks formidable.
6. If you park next to a guy who locks his bike with something he used with his Huffy, you should be ok. They’ll look at your “bite me” tough lock and look at his Hopalong Cassidy lock and take his bike. Like I said, I’m not a bike thief, but that’s what I’d do.
I read several bike gadget reviews online and the FOLDYLOCK appeared on several. I liked the flexibility and the very strong security rating. A U lock limits what you can lock your bike to.
It arrived and it is heavier than it looks! You might think it is just plastic from the picture, but that is just a coating on substantial metal. It isn’t as heavy as a U lock for lifting it. It also makes a much nicer profile when attached to your bike. With U locks, you tend to want to leave them behind if you think you won’t need it because you bump your knees into it and it takes up so much space on your bike frame.
Very, very pleased with this lock. If you want/need flexibility on what you lock your bike to and want to feel secure about leaving your bike — this is the lock for you.
Previously: Good lock that's easy to use, and fits around bike racks, as well as parking meters :) . I've been using it for several months & my bike hasn't been stolen yet in San Francisco.
My only complaints is, the hinges offer zero resistance, so the lock falls out quickly when you open the lock. The end of the lock hit the pavement many times, because I couldn't catch it fast enough. It would have been perfect if there is a little bit of traction in the hinges, so that the lock doesn't fall out (on the side that you're not holding) quickly.
For my purposes, the combo of usability and security are great. There are definitely more secure locks on the market, but they are heavy and harder to use on the varied attachment points in my city. My new bike is not outside overnight and I don't park for long in high-theft areas, so the middle ground between security and convenience is perfect for me.
It is incredibly intuitive and easy to use, and rides silently if attached, even with just straps. I haven’t had this peace of mind with a bike lock before.

I researched quite a bit before opting for the 'Foldy Lock'. I didn't like the 'clunky' nature of the 'D' shaped locks and wanted something compact, yet robust and this fits the bill perfectly.
It arrived promptly and as advertised in colours that compliment my bike. The lock is reassuringly weighty, but not unwieldy and the plastic coating means it doesn't mark the frame. The holster works well and has never rattled.
For several months I used the lock without issue, but about 10 months after purchase I began to notice the device stiffening and splaying apart. It then became evident that the spacers/cir-clips in the joints were becoming exposed. This meant that getting it into the supplied holster became almost impossible and as a result I contacted support via the web portal.
I dealt with Gabriel via e-mail who was patient and understanding of my issue. He advised that the lock could be brought back into normal service by removing the spacers using a pair of pliers which I duly did; however, I didn't feel this was particularly satisfactory for a £60 lock and was also concerned about it voiding my bike insurance (evidence of tampering). As a result my lock was replaced free of charge and have passed the old one to a family member as it still seems robust.
In summary, a good lock which satisfies my criteria, but suspect the design could be improved. Coupled with excellent customer service, I have no hesitation in recommending.
As an edit to my original review it would be great if one could purchase an additional separate holster for fitting to a second bicycle. Many of us have two or more bikes or in my case would like the ability for my wife to borrow the lock when she goes out on her bike. I know replacement holsters are available in the US but I can't seem to find one in the UK.
I'd read comments, before purchasing, about the weight of the lock. I was surprised to find that the lock wasn't as heavy as I thought it would be and, to be honest, it's negligible if you're going to attach it to your bike frame. However, if you are going to be putting the lock in your bag, then I don't think it is any heavier than other locks, in fact, I think D locks are heavier.
Ease of use: Once you have got used to the lock being akin to one of those plastic toy snakes that wiggled when you held it out, you can easily thread the lock through the back wheel around the post you are securing your bike to and lock it. I also use a steal cable that I thread through my front wheel to secure and have no problems.
I did find that I had to lean my bike as close to the post as possible (not use my stand as I usually do), but it's no biggie I'd rather have a secure bike.
When unlocking, just be careful when pulling the Foldy back through the wheel. I have found that on some occasions the lock has made contact with the chain and I have ended up with oil on my hands. However, that is not the fault of the lock, as such, but operator error! The Foldy easily folds back to its compact state and slots nicely and securely in its holder.
The holder can be attached in various places on your bike frame with either the velcro straps or where the drinks holder usually goes. The bolts and straps both come with the lock.
The keys and the locking mechanism are solid, operate smoothly and I am reassured that my bike is safe when locked up (of course this also does depend on the surrounding area).
I would thoroughly recommend this Secure Silver Foldy compact lock.
