For broad lines, I thought the B would be my go-to pen, but I found I liked the SC best, even going over some of my B lines to change them. The XS is quite fine enough for my purposes, although copic and micron offer finer tips than this. (This company may as well, just not in this set?) I love that they've included a narrower and shorter tipped brush pen... Hooray!! I'll definitely use that.
Using one of the larger tips (the SC, I believe) I did have one small smear where my hand dragged across it too soon, but I didnt have that problem with any of the other sizes. Or with that pen again, once I was paying better attention.
Another reviewer had said they could do a light watercolor wash over the ink without it running or bleeding, but I dont know yet. I'll update this review once I try this, and also if I find the pens dry out quickly.
If you like a looser, more markery feel, give these a try!
update january 2016: I've done several large projects with these (see photos for two) and still love them. The smallest nib, xs, has worn out. The felt part is damaged nowAND I'm out of ink, I think. I feel like I did a lot with it, but I'm going to test a few other brands and see if they hold up differently. I am very happy with my results, though. Great pens!
After using several brands of bullet nib and brush pens like Micron,Le Pen, Faber Castell, Tikky the list goes on...these are no longer pens I use for sketching or drawing. While I love that this set offers such a wide range of pen nibs and sizes to try, I just can't use them because they aren't waterproof or even water resistant. I paint with watercolor and I also use it in small amounts in my urban sketching and loose portraits and sketches. I need a pen that can stand up to even small amounts of water. Unfortunately these can't. If you are just using dry media then these will be fine and you will probably enjoy them. For me, I like water resistant pigment ink whether I'm using all dry media or mixed media. These are fine for my sketchbook or just pen and ink pieces. I still love my other Faber Castell Art supplies, I just can't use these for much :(
I’ve just started bullet journaling for art projects, a “wish list” of ideas on the back side of the journal, and keeping track of progress, media used, color names, paper used, etc, on the front side. I’ve only just started the journal, but I look forward to the sketching I can do with these markers to plot out thumbnails and inspirational doodles.
