I had never used water aqua graphite before, but it is wonderful! I do a lot of watercolor and like the flow of the paint on the paper. I have enjoyed seeing other people's pencil drawings and have been doing some studies to get better at drawing. Wetting this graphite after I have drawn an image gives me the watercolor feel. I can blend, soften and smooth with water and it looks lovely. These are a new favorite!
These pencils are easy to use. Just draw a line and wet it with the included brush. It will give a whole new feel to your drawings!

These aquarelle graphite pencils have added a whole new dimension to my art practice. I don’t use pencil much—I love ink and watercolors—but these are awesome.

They’re very smooth to use and draw just like a pencil. But when it comes time to shade, a brush dipped in some water or a water brush completely transforms the graphite into more of a watercolor experience.

You can then layer in details with these pencils—wet on wet or wait for it to dry—or add sharp lines with a standard pencil.

They also dissolve and paint more smoothly than most of the watercolor pencils I’ve used, which is great.

I highly recommend these pencils!

This hidden gem has been around for a few years, but only a few weeks ago I had stumbled upon these and it was the first time I had ever heard of such a thing. I was so excited to try these babies out for a test run. My very first medium that I ever worked with and mastered was graphite pencils. I have been a freelance graphite artist since I was fifteen years old and have learned so much about the medium over the past 11 years. So, when I encountered this new variation to my favorite medium, I was cautious, yet anxious to try it.

As I started sketching out the outline on toned paper, I noticed quickly that the pencils behaved the same as any other graphite pencil. When I tried to build up a darker tone with the pencils, however, I was a little disappointed with it's performance. I couldn't seem to get the tone evenly dark or dark enough without using the water. When I dragged a damp brush over the same area, however, it became instantly darker and smoothed out nicely.

If you are familiar with how watercolor paints work, then you will be delighted to find that this medium handles the same way in its wet form. The less water you add to the brush, the darker the tone will be. The more water you add, the lighter the tone gets and becomes easier to spread around the paper evenly. Keep in mind, just like watercolor paint, as soon as this medium gets wet, it becomes permanent. So, in the areas that I got wet, I was no longer able to erase like I would with regular graphite. Since I was using toned paper, I used a white VeriThin Prismacolor pencil to shade in the highlights. This worked very well on top of the areas that I applied water (after it dried, of course).

In conclusion, these watersoluble graphite pencils were easy to use and made the drawing process go a lot quicker than using a blending stump, like I normally do. In their dry form, they handle almost identical to typical graphite pencils (with the exception of being able to build up densely dark tones). In their wet form, they handle almost identical to typical watercolor paints. So, once you get the drawing wet, be prepared for everything to become permanent.
