I have read this entire set aloud to my children for YEARS!! The story line is gripping, the writing is excellent, and the vocabulary is fantastic. Case in point: When my youngest son was 5 years old (with two older sisters), we started reading this series as a family. About halfway through the serious, my kindergarten-aged son started a thought with, "Perhaps after they subdue the enemy..." AND I ALMOST CHOKED!! SAY WHAT?? Not only did he know those words enough to understand what was going on, he understood how to use them in a sentence!!!

We made sure to stop and look up words we didn't know (because there were even a few that I didn't know) and we made sure to make the effort to pronounce stuff correctly as well (like I found I had been mispronouncing "satyr").

This is a great series for homeschool and a great series for kids to read on their own!!

I read this series with my 8 year old son and I have to say that even though it kept him entertained I wished I waited another year or two. There are a lot of deaths and Kidnappings in these books which I think might be a little on the hard to digest side for a younger child. The books themselves are very well written. I found myself expanding my vocabulary reading them. The story itself is very compelling and keeps moving at a quick pace. The writer supports great values and teaches about choices and consequences. The characters grow and mature as the series progresses, especially the teenage boy who makes some very impulsive choices which impact the safety and lives of others. These books are very entertaining, clean and free of any hidden agendas. I will definitely be reading the story of Kendra and Seth with my other children. I would highly recommend this book for kids 10 and over.

Amazon suggested Brandon Mull's Fablehaven, and after reading all of the reviews I decided to give it a shot and purchased the set for my son. He dug into the first book and wouldn't put it down. He quickly read the rest and was disappointed when it ended. He loved the story content, the characters, and the setting. He said the story was very interesting and fun to read. I even heard him laughing aloud at times. It must have been good because he took the books with him everywhere and would just spends hours reading. Due to his response to this series I can confidently recommend it to others.

I first read this book series when I was in the fourth grade and I absolutely loved it. I recall late nights where I snuck a flashlight under the covers and stayed up far too late on a school night to finish the Fablehaven books.

After seeing the new covers, I decided to order a new boxed set (my old set was looking worn and wrinkled with far too many rips from being read). I passed my old books down to my younger sister and have greatly enjoyed reading them again as an adult.

I highly recommend this fantasy series to people of all ages, and am very pleased with the quality of my new books and their new covers.

I enjoy the stories, but the quality of the books/binding is very low. Granted, at only $25, I suppose the price is fair, but don't expect something that will last! I started reading the first book on kindle, then switched over mid-book to the hard copy once I received this set. When I found my chapter, and opened the book wide enough to comfortably read, it completely folded the binding in half and it looks like pages would come out fairly easily. The first book is the smallest. I'm a little worried about losing pages in the later books. We'll see! Wish they were better quality, but like I said, the price is low and the stories are good.

Brandon Mull does a great job of writing stories that are entertaining for kids and adults. I read this series a few years ago borrowing it from the library. Recently I wanted to go through it with my kids so decided to buy the set. They love the stories and I love how animated they get about it. They love and hate Seth with his fun-loving, yet often careless attitude and the humor he brings to the adventures. I am not concerned about any questionable content, and at the same time, I do not dread having to read a pointless, mind-numbing story. Most parents out there will know what it's like to have your child really enjoy something you can't stand so I am happy this does not fall into that category.

I wouldn't compare this to Harry Potter, which is filled with angst. It is more like Narnia, which is lighter in tone, while still teaching important life lessons in a non-didactic, entertaining way. It is filled with realistic child characters, figures from mythology, and battles between good and evil. Our heroes are teenager Kendra who is a gentle goodie-two-shoes type, and her younger brother Seth who is brave and mischievous. Their bickering is very realistic (although a little more funny and clever than I remember being) and entertaining. I thought the author was good at creating situations that were genuinely difficult and which required love, discernment, courage and a growing maturity. I could never guess what was coming next, and though the books are very suspenseful, the author did a great job of interweaving action with quieter moments of wisdom and strategy. The creatures and the world he creates are very compelling and intricate. I grew very fond of them.

I read all five books through in a row, and though it's been a few days since I put them down, I still think about the characters, the world they lived in (which was beautiful), and the dilemmas they faced. Very good, full of wisdom, fun and action. Children (both boys and girls) and adults alike will love this story.

Each of the five books was equally good. A excellent series in the young adult fantasy genre.

There is nothing I can complain about in this except one thing. Seth is portrayed as an obnoxious nucence. But I actually think he should have a bit more credit and a little less underestimation. I mean honestly, who got the magic sword? Seth did! Who got the cool powers? Seth did! But instead, Kendra got all the credit and all the seemingly cool actually typical and 'blah' powers!

For a supposedly "children's" book this ticked many boxes. The writing was dynamic and pacey; though I found it difficult to entirely immerse myself in the lead characters for some reason, there was a great deal going on on almost every page and I thoroughly enjoyed the action and ideas expressed. The juxtaposition of fantasy and reality worked well throughout; in fact, similar to Terry Brooks' "Landover" series and his " Knight of the Word" series. The breadth of language and word play was impressive, in contrast to some other authors I have strugled with recently. All-in-all, a pretty good page-turner in my view.
