Sarah Mensinga is a Canadian who now lives in Texas with her husband and three kids. She has worked in the animation industry as an animator and concept artist. She also once wrote an 800-page graphic novel that she likes to hide away on the internet, and she's contributed to various comic anthologies, such as Flight 4 & Flight 5. She's been writing stories of some sort or another since she was eight years old, and has been ruining movies for friends and family ever since by overthinking the plot. Essential favorites are; color: red, article of clothing: space cat leggings, cheese: leiden, board game: Lords of Waterdeep, chip flavor: ketchup.

Before I start, I have to confess that I picked up the first issue of Comics Now!, read a few of the articles, then mis-placed. Now, I'm waiting until #3 comes out so that I can order all three to get my collection up to date. In case you didn't know, this magazine is brought to you by the people who create and/or listen to the podcast Comic Geek Speak. While unfortuneately I can't say that the podcast is my favorite (I find it often lacks focus, or has inarticulate arguments), none of those problems are present in this magazine. This is a fanzine with modern production values. While some of the art or typos might clue you in that this isn't Wizard or Geek Magazine, the depth and scope of the articles make up for it. Because it's "home grown", you find vapid 2-paragraph articles which are basically plugs for whatever Marvel or DC want to ram down your throat. Issue #1 had a fantastic article on DC's Crisis on Infinite Earths (the author completed his thesis on the topic--honestly!), as well as an article on kid-hero Nova. Nova's somebody I didn't know much about, and I'm glad they were there to teach me about him. I wish I could remember what else was in the mag, since I know I'd probably be reluctant to buy without thumbing through to know what I was getting into. But... it's a tough magazine to find. My comic store is pretty well-stocked, and they only carried issue one. I would say that Back Issue by Two Morrows is the best comics magazine out there, but Comics Now! puts up a good fight and is certainly worth your six bucks.

This book is so pretty. After seeing one of the stories on a website, I asked for it for Christmas, and I was not disappointed. HIGHLY recommend this book, not only for the great stories, but for the beautiful artwork. Stories are fiction, fairy-tale types, but would be best suited for older teens-adults, not for younger children...
