I injured my left rotator cuff and broke my arm in June. Since I am left handed I suddenly found out that my right hand was 3 inches too short to accomplish bathroom duties.. I knew I could just not go to the bathroom until it healed so I tried a shoe horn. swiffer handle and curved stick to no avail. After a few weeks, frustration and humiliation led me to start searching for another answer. That's when I found my Bottom "Butt" Buddy.(my personal name) This product has been my life saver.
On a recent trip to Alaska I could tell that the people operating the airport x-ray machines wanted to ask me what it was but never did. They would study it in my carry on bag. It never was far from me the whole trip since one nevers knows these things. I have shared the info with my
Orthopedist, physical therapy staff and many patients. They have given me permission to put a note about it in their offices. I guess you could say I am impressed. I know I will consider myself healed when I can wipe my "butt" and hook my bra with my left hand again. Until then I will carry my constant companion with me. Thanks

When I read the feedback for the Bottom Buddy, it sounded like a mixed reaction. However, I am having hand surgery on one hand- 6wks recovery and then the other hand & another 6wks before I wipe my own bum. I am a 3X size girl so I am not relishing asking anyone for help. There isn't alot of room to approach the rear even with a cut-out on my toilet riser. I also have a disability for my arthritic hands and spine. The old gray mare syndrome. I have had NO trouble with the issues that others had with using toilet paper as opposed to wet wipes. I always use wetwipes on each trip instead of paper that can leave unpleasant pieces in the public hair ;o) I have a suggestion of something that works for me. After I shower and dry off, I use a silicon based sex lubricant in my belly skin fold and both the labia and the rectal area. This works like teflon non-stick and clean up is a breeze for the rest of the day... for urine you only need to dab, not wipe and there is no odor and BMs slide right off. Just saying.

I recommended this to an elderly patient after reviewing several different tools designed for the same thing. I am an occupational therapist and make recommendations all of the time on assistive devices to enable a person to perform self care tasks independently. My patient has significant upper and lower body range of motion constraints. She found it very difficult to take care of her personal hygiene after a bowel movement. I purchased this for her and without training, she struggled to use it. She was using toilet paper and found it difficult to load. At my next home health visit to her, we problem solved the easiest way to use it. I showed her that by using a flushable wipe (denser fabric), and using an altered technique, she could load the wipe easier. I had her put her finger into the middle of the wipe and then drape it over her finger like a little ghost. Then with the other hand, pull down the bottom lip of the device head and then insert her "ghosted" finger into the middle of the 3 lips. Then she would let go of the bottom lip and it would hold secure the wipe between the three lips. It is a bilateral task but does not require a great deal of fine motor strength. At this point, I trained her to stand up and hold on to her walker with one hand, do a little "crouch" or bend her knees slightly and access her peri area from the front gripping the device with the wipe of course up through her legs. It's slightly bent so the shape easily allows the device head to reach the peri area. When the patient is finished, you turn the device upside down so the wipe folds up on itself and you may remove the wipe from the device without soiling your hands. Reload as necessary.

I am very happy with this product.

This product is a life-saver for those with reaching or stretching problems. I have tried several "versions" of the toileting tools available, and the design for this one is superior. The soft-rubber bulb design is more comfortable to use than the other knife-like devices. The manufacturer recommends that you use wet-wipes, not dry toilet paper. I must agree. I think that those reviews where folks are complaining that the wand broke may be using the dry paper and working the wand too hard.

It seems to work best if you take a full square wet-wipe, push the wipe into the center of the petals, and let the four points fall around the head of the bulb. after completing your business, flip it over so that all four points dangle down, and then release the button over the trashcan. (IF you have flushable wipes, then you can release directly into the toilet bowl.) Remember not to push the wipe too far down into the petals, or the paper may not release without a little tug.

I highly recommend this device. The bottom buddy does ship with a pouch-- but does not allow room for sanitary supplies. I have created a perfect travel kit for my little tool. I use the Eagle Creek Pack It Tube Cube and a Ziploc 1 Pint Freezer Bags - 1 box (20 Count) to carry a supply of wet-wipes. Everything fits just right in the tube pouch. I have found this makes a discreet *waterproof* sanitary pouch and it doesn't raise eyebrows in airport security. Give it a try, you'll like it!
