Look. I know we all have a certain soft spot for the bad boy. The mysterious, angry boy that we could TOTALLY fix if he would JUST LOVE US. If only he would give us a chance, we could show him how wonderful the world is and make him forever indebted to us for making him all better. PFFT. That ain't love, y'all. Bad boys have to fix themselves. Which is why I'm madly and eagerly in love with Adrian Westfall.
I'm going to tell you like it is: I was NOT an Adrian fan going into this book. It is my love of Nyrae and the chance to get a glimpse of my boy Colt that I picked this up. Adrian is a pot smoking, heavy partying secondary character in CHARADE that I really doubted I could grow to even like in this second installment of the Games series. Why, oh why did I ever doubt Nyrae's ability to make my heart grow.
Yes, Adrian has a secret. Yes, he's using drugs to numb pain. Yes, there's an amazing girl that intrigues him to the point of madness. But our girl Delaney also has a secret. A secret that connects her to him in the worst possible way. Let's just say Adrian isn't the only one in this story who needs fixin'. And the beautiful, BEAUTIFUL thing is that these characters know that the only way to get better is to fix themselves. THIS is my favorite thing about Adrian and Delaney's story. Love is inspiring someone to be better, not DOING it for them.
Adrian is marvelous. And so is Delaney. Their story will bring you to your knees because just when you think you know how things will turn out, TWISTS happen and you'll cry. Pretty darn hard, too. At the end of it all, I can tell you with absolute sincerity that Adrian is as good of a man as Colt is. My dearest Nyrae, I will never doubt your characters again. :)
PS--YES! Colt and Cheyenne make several appearances in Facade and it was SO GREAT to see them again. (I LOVE YOU, COLT!)
Overall it was an "OK" book. Not great but not horrible just eh.. OK. I hope Masquerade is better. Maddox seems a little more interesting than his sister Delaney.
Who spent every waking moment she could reading this book and was.not.disappointed? This girl!
I love the way this author writes the male POV. She nails it every single time.
Her men are 2 parts bad boy, 1 part mystery, 1 part romantic, and 1 part bring-you-to-tears-deep. Even if you don't like tatted up bad boys that smoke weed all day, you'll fall in love with Adrian. That's the pure awesomeness that is Nyrae Dawn. Granted I do like a bad boy, especially one that cusses. (Does that make me weird?? Don't care.) So I only went from loving him, to loving him more as he matured and changed throughout this book. And Delaney? I loved her too. Granted... there was a little bit of me that was screaming "Just tell him already, woman!" with the secret you're let in on from the get go. But still... she was a strong chick with a lot of heart and I adored watching them break down their walls and truly see one another for who they really are.
I loved Adrian and Delaney's banter. Loved that she didn't fall at his feet. Loved that he pursued her over and over. And getting a peek into Adrian's heart? It was a depth and enthrallment that absolutely gripped my heart.
Did you read Charade? If not, go do that. This is the 2nd book in the series. And even though this is written so well that it could really be a stand alone book, you'll want to read the 1st one. Trust me.
And just like the last book, this one made me cry too! What the junk?! I hate sad books, so trust me when I say this isn't one. I feel like I'm missing the essential female hormone that "loves a good cry." Never have I wanted an author to drag me through the mud of depression and heartache.Read more ›
Can love save them?
After her father commits a crime that shatters her family, eighteen-year-old Delaney Cross is tired of pretending everything is all right. Packing up her car, she sets out to find the people her father hurt. Her search leads her to places she's never been--and into the arms of Adrian Westfall.
To the outside world, Adrian is a sexy, charming ladies' man. But his playboy persona is just an act. Secretly his soul is tortured by a memory too painful to share. Only Delaney seems to see through his façade to the real man underneath. And for the first time in his life, Adrian feels he can begin to open up about his past.
Together, Adrian and Delaney share a passionate love they never expected to find. Yet both still harbor their own secrets. When the dark truth is finally revealed, will it bring them closer together--or tear them apart forever?
I'm surprised my frustration with how much I really wanted to like this book, didn't end up blowing up my computer. The storyline given in the blurb really drew me into it. Hey, what's better than two people with so much angst and the power to destroy one another falling in love? The characters set, the scene in place, and the story raring to go only ended up falling ... flat.
I found the characters were built up very well; however, a lot of it was almost repetitious. The shocking secrets really were shocking, but there could have been so much more. I tried to figure out just what it was as I kept reading and I ended up toward the end identifying it. This author has a very distinct style of writing, but one many `newer' authors end up having to learn.Read more ›
