My one criticism would be that it is entitled as the singles edition, but there are quite a few references to marriage in it, which is fine, but I felt a little over the top for a resource entitled 'singles edition'. I would have also liked to see a little more about gender equality in the workplace. However, these are small points in what is an excellent resource. I will definitely be recommending this to our members at The Sophia Network.
If you're single, I think this study can help you to define what you believe about relationships between men and women. It can give you some "talking points" to discuss with someone you're in relationship with, or considering as a potential partner. Going through this study with a significant other can help you learn a lot about them, and whether you are on the same page when it comes to gender equality.
I found it helpful that the study not only explores our relationships but also how we view ourselves, and how that impacts every relationship.
This study unpacks many of the "challenging passages" about men and women, showing that you can believe that the Bible is true, but that it supports mutuality, unity, and respect. Each lesson is obviously undergirded by strong scholarship but is easy to read and understand.
This would be a great study for small groups, or for dating couples who want to have an egalitarian relationship based on mutual submission, mutual respect and unity. I highly recommend it.
There is also a couples edition which is available in both Face-to-Face: Discover the joy of relationships built on mutual respect, equality, and compassionate loveor Face-to-Face Couples Edition in black and white: Discover the Joy of Relationships Built on Mutual Respect, Equality, and Compassionate Love (Volume 3).
Each study is very thorough, based on Scripture and invites the reader to engage the information in a deep, practical and personal way. I appreciate how the authors provide heart-probing questions to help me go deeper with the material they have presented. I especially love how the authors include Greek words from the Scripture passages that give me deeper insight and understanding into what the Scripture is really saying; some of the true meanings of the Greek words are truly life-changing!
The format and layout make engagement easy and invite slow processing of the great material.
