Alexander “Zander” Tsadwa (tSAHD-wuh or SAHD-wuh) is a perpetually bemused Ethiopian-American man. In his quest to be less confused by America, Zander serves as an independent culture broker, a writer and content manager at Across The Culture, and a speaker on multiculturalism, racial identity, and cross-cultural communication. In his downtime, Zander enjoys walking, journaling, and logging out of Twitter in fits of frustration. He also toys with the possibility of further complicating his professional life by releasing a bunch of music he wrote and recorded out of passion. Must read story about being a college student!

The author does a great job offering an honest account of being a student of color on U.S. college campuses. Hysterical and, at times, sobering. He presents a relatable story that any college student would enjoy reading. I highly recommend this to anyone who has been exposed to the confusing, liberating, and alienating world of higher ed.

My wish is that many people will read "Facing a Bottle of Henny" for years to come. I can sit here and tell you it’s a DOPE College Coming-of-Age story and I can tell you the Tracklist formatting from the Pregame (Preface) to the Toast (Acknowledgments) is the most creative memoir outline to be published in the 21st century, but there is so much more to this book. Zander takes you through his journey as “a young brown boy who barely survived to tell the tale of a backwards private Catholic school in Minnesota.” There is so much of our subgroup narrative to be added into the world and this memoir is just one. It’s an important one if you’re someone close to the communities (or similar communities) that Zander mentions in his book or if you’re just learning from afar, yet to experience such roadblocks and stepping-stones. Take the time to appreciate the experiences, the comedy, and the insight you’ll get out of this book and you will not regret it one bit. This book single-handedly inspired me to work on my own narrative and that’s a gift no amount of outside resources has ever given me before.

Relatable and insightful, a must read for college students!

I recommend this book to a lot of my friends in college because it is so relatable. This book is all about the author Zanders experience in college specifically as an African American at a white and catholic university. Being in that same situation and as someone whose identity lacks representation at my school, I found Zanders experience important to hear. His stories were not only relatable but also inspirational and insightful. This book is also very well written and it really feels like the author Zander is speaking to you individually. Overall, a collection of stories that needs to be heard!

If you ever watched the movie or the Netflix show "Dear White People" and liked it, this is a book you should read. Unlike the aforementioned movie and show, this contains events that really happened.
The author did a good job in presenting a nuanced description of intersectionality during the author's college years. It reads like something forged on Olympus. The style of the author is so easy to read, it feels like the author is speaking to you. Though author uses slang throughout the book, it is still very easy to understand and relate to.
