The plot of this ties into the first book. If you have not read it, then stop now and go back and read it or you will be lost. This plot is a little evolved since a lot of questions were answered in the first book. This book explores what happens after all the revelations and how the characters adjust and cope with the changes. It really is a wonderful story.
The characters are one of a kind. Tink has to be one of my favorite characters ever. She is so strong and compassionate. I truly love her in the “Mother Hen” role. Rogan is a wonderful character as well. He is a strong character who truly cares for our Tink. That right there makes him amazing all on its own. What I love about this story is that even with the two main characters, there are several minor characters that really add to the story and stand out on their own. It is like MJ Haag created her own little universe that we are allow to visit.
The heat in this book is written wonderfully. I feel that the author did an amazing job with writing scenes and show the chemistry and heat between characters, but also allows the characters to feel organic and not forced. This is something that is very important to me personally as a reader. I hate reading scenes that feel forced. I love that the author was able to get a bit steamier in this book as opposed to the last book as well. It felt like it fit with the storyline.
The author is a brilliant writer. I loved so much about the writing style that I will try to explain it the best I can. First, I loved how the book opened. It allowed readers to refresh their memory a bit and remind them what is at stake and what is going on. I also loved the dual point of views. I prefer dual point of views because I like having all the information possible, including thoughts from both characters. A dual point of view provides this to me. The pace in this book is nice and steady. I also love all the descriptions given. This author tells the story in a way readers can truly feel they are a part of this world she has created. What is even more impressive is that this is not even a full length novel!
Overall, I loved this novella. I love these characters and the whole story and the way it is presented. I would recommend this to others! I really hope the author continues with this story and allows readers to get more of Tink and Rogan because we cannot get enough! What an amazing job!
Writing Style: 5/5
The Lutha Chronicles is different. This book picks up where the first left off. I liked the way this story plays out. I liked the fight for restraint, the passion and perspective of Tink. The interesting attitudes of the mothers and even the reigning Lutha. The matriarchal driven society causes me to cringe, treating the men like second class citizens and focusing only on power and position. Several actions and conversations sickened me. I really wanted Tink to lose it with her mother, who just didn't seem to get it. There are some deep conversations to be had about that alone.
The story is well written and flows smoothly. I do not recall grammatical errors or typos that would take away from the story. I thought the pacing was also appropriate. This series is not like anything I've ever read, but I'm not one that usually jumps on bandwagons to notice commonalities from more popular books. I have noticed that Haag has consistently constructed her own worlds with her imaginative twists that take a well used concept and develops it into something new and fresh. I look forward to reading more from this series and author.
If this series was too...weird for you, I do think you should try her Judgement of the Six Series.
It continued the story of Tink and Rogan. The very quirky, Tink, is tough, strong, caring and dedicated to her inner-city neighborhood. She had left behind her world and moved into a human city, but in this book, she must face her past.
Rogan is a great male lead and a hottie. He is strong, honorable and caring. He accepts that Tink is the woman in charge, but also knows when he needs to step up.
Tink and Rogan were awesome together. They have great chemistry. I loved that they rely on each other.
There’s a lot of action and the end of the books allows for more in the series, but leaves the reader satisfied if there isn’t another book. I love this author and have read all of her other books. This book was really good and I didn’t want it to end.
Five Stars * * * * *
As with all of the books I've read by Ms Haag, I found myself on the edge of my seat, experiencing a range of emotions and hungry to discover where her heroine was leading us.I think we're seeing a bit more of the author's brilliance each time she pens a new work. Every time I pick up one of her books, I find it almost impossible to set it down until I'm finished, and I'm looking forward to reading what she has in store for us next.
