About the Author

E.K. Blair, takes her readers on an emotional roller coaster with her dynamic and intense writing style. Noted for her ability to create fleshed-out characters that will evoke a realm of reactions, you can be assured that her stories will linger with you far beyond the last word.

A former first grade teacher with an imagination that runs wild. Daydreaming and zoning out is how she was often found in high school. Blair tends to drift towards everything dark and moody. Give her a character and she will take pleasure in breaking them down, digging into their core to find what lies underneath.

Aside from writing, E.K. Blair finds pleasure in music, drinking her Starbucks in peace, and spending time with her friends. She's a thinker, an artist, a wife, a mom, and everything in between.

This focal point in this book deals with an intense and traumatic situation. Afterward Candace's light begins darkening and some time and healing are both needed, the reader follows this process with the story and it is an inspiring journey. I loved the male lead Ryan, even though we don't meet him until 50% into the book. He's sweet, caring, and would do anything for Candace. His character is so tender and patient for her. Even though Ryan had a tough childhood and a mean as hell father he still went on to become a great man and make something of himself. I also loved Candace's friends Jace and Mark, they are great character's and a very important support system that Candace really needed during the time she is falling apart and rebuilding of herself.
Here is where I have to add to this review the part I had a few issues with. I didn't care for Candace's character very much. I certainly understand she had a hell of the most devastating manner delivered to her, but she really does nothing but cry, this is totally understandable in real life, but not something I want to read about page after page. And it seemed to me that her character never truly grows stronger. She uses Jace WAY to much, and he is constantly enabling her. The plot was strong at first, then it teetered out, seemed to drag, then felt like a stand still, seriously. Candace's character is best described as a lost ship at sea, just floating around aimlessly with no direction and no desire to overcome what has happened to her. I was finally rewarded after a good third of reading the book (after the incident, mind you) when Ryan steps in and began to take charge of some things.
I would've liked for Candace to grow a pair and do what she should have done in the beginning.

Every once in a while you come across a read that really resonates within you. There is something present that fills your thoughts and heart with the story. FADING by E.K. Blair did just that this past week.
The very first thing that intrigued me about the story is the absolutely stunning cover. The simplicity of the cover takes my breath away. It eludes to nothing of the story, yet after reading it, the cover says so much with so little.
When I was about half way into the story, I realized I had a definite connection to the story but the angst wasn't swallowing me and bringing me down. This surprised me given the nature of the story. Although I did not have a personal connection with the female main character (I could not imagine enduring her situation), I felt for her. I could feel her lose her way and as the story progressed I felt as if I needed to protect myself. A woman should never have to go through that kind of pain and yet, unfortunately it is more common than not. As a woman I really felt the author's need to have readers understand that there isn't a quick fix to this kind of physical and emotional damage. E.K. Blair did a sincere, graceful job without compromising the ugliness of the situation, in telling Candace's story. You could honestly stop and think `if that were me, I would be on that floor crying right now too.' `If that were me, I would wish it all away.'--no matter what the right way to deal with is.
There will be those readers that will say it was too drawn out or Candace wasn't strong enough but the honest to goodness truth of the matter is, given yourself in the situation, you have absolutely no idea how broken you would become. How damaged and withdrawn you would be. You don't know from where you would need to draw your strength.

I loved reading this journey from an amazing new writer, E.K.Blair. I say journey because that's exactly what it is. Through this story you meet and really get to know and be Candace Parker. It starts off with a girl who is striving toward her dreams of becoming a professional dancer despite her uptight judgmental country club mom's unsupportive nasty attitude. After a brutal attack, which by the way will leave your heart a bleeding mess, she struggles and flounders to put the pieces of herself back together. Only she feels like those pieces are ash and there is no putting them back together again. The reactions and inner dialogue are soul-wrenching and real.
I think one of my favorite aspects of this story is the progression of the relationship between Candace and Ryan. It's honest and real. No other way to describe it. Except maybe to add in perfect, in a very un-perfect way because Ryan too has secrets and demons that he struggles with. Ryan has officially found his way onto my all-time favorite BBF lists.
The secondary characters, especially Jase are amazing, wonderful people that you wish you had in your life.
The journey you take on this book has you completely invested heart, body and soul. You will laugh, you will cry, you will ache, you will shatter only to be built back up. I love how E.K. Blair tells this tale of love and healing and the trouble and turmoil that comes along with it.
Be prepared for a couple of OMG! Holy Crap moments as well as one heck of a book hang over, but in the best way possible. The story will stay with you and have you thinking about the characters for days, weeks, months after. Also, no cliffhanger!!
Hands down, five stars and will become one of your all-time favorites
