Several of the On Message characters reappear here, and how their lives have progressed since the earlier novel as well as how they integrate with Jillian's life make for fascinating subplots as well as important elements of the action. Strand introduces new faces as well, including a fascinating and well-concealed villain whose identity you won't (at least I didn't) i.d. till near the very end.
To me, Strand's at her best when interfacing the intricacies of the criminal plot with the in's and out's of a corporate environment to which few of us have been exposed. By the way, Jillian manages to extricate herself from her dangers this time without resorting to help from her underwear. (that's a tease to get you to read On Message, which you'll enjoy every bit as much as this one.) Beginning to end, this is an engaging read. Go for it.
This story really makes you think, as you try to figure out how the case is going to be solved. I enjoy being an armchair detective. I know I'd never like to try to solve crimes in real life, but in a book -from the safety of my home- you can count on me to try and figure out exactly what happens, and predict any twists.
Disclosure: I received a complimentary PDF copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
While Fair Disclosure - A Jillian Hillcrest Mystery is a sequel, I didn't feel lost. In fact, it has only made me want to go check out the other books that Joyce T. Strand has written. It did take me a little bit to get into the book but once I did I had a hard time putting it down. You never know what was going to happen next. Ms. Strand does a great job of shifting suspicion from one person to another. I love books where you think you know the answer and then all of the sudden you change your mind, you keep going back and forth
I would really be interested to know how much of this story is about true events. I'm sure most of the insider trading is based on true events, but murder? I wonder. I mean I know it is a cutthroat business but I did not think it literally was one.
I give this book 4 stars, only because I found it hard to get involved in the book in the beginning. While there is some violence in the book and some sexual innuendos, there are no explicit sex scenes or very graphic scenes. There is one very intense scene at the end of the book but nothing any worse than other books. I think that this book is appropriate for anyone in high school or older. Men and women will enjoy this book.
I received this book to review through Beck Valley Books Book Tours, all the opinions above are 100% my own.
Fair Disclosure is a mystery based in the business world. It's not the type of mystery I'm used to reading but it was interesting. Insider trading is the main issue of the book but it starts with an attempted murder.
There is a lot going on in Fair Disclosure. Besides the investigation into insider trading and the attempted murder, there's a murder, amateur sleuths, and a marriage proposal on the table.
I enjoyed this book. It was a good old fashioned mystery but in the modern business world. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good mystery.
