This review is by my 12-year-old niece:
Overall it was funny and had some cute stories, but I feel like it crossed a few lines and had a lot of sarcasm. I wouldn't recommend it for those who are trying to teach your kid a moral lesson...not a good bedtime story. :)

These five stories are very familiar but with some odd twists. The "heroine" of each tale is a little put-out. She won't simply smile and act sweet, even when rescued. Instead, when she has serious misgivings and concerns about her situation, she is perfectly happy voicing those concerns to anyone who will listen.

For instance, when Little Miss Wears-A-Hood (played by Xyla, the Gloomy Girl) suffers post-traumatic stress after the wolf incident, she wonders if it would have been better if the wolf had just eaten her, as then she wouldn't have to be afraid all the time. The woodsman offers to protect her but she says they better just break up because he cant save her from her own thoughts. I thought it was good that at least she is aware of her issues and I hoped that she might continue to work through them so she can overcome her problems -- even if she does break up with the woodsman!

All of the stories star different angry little girls. The other stories are:

Snow Yellow and the Seven Short Men: with Kim the Angry Little Asian girl.

The Princess Got the Third Degree: played by Deborah the Disenchanted Princess.

He's No Beauty in the Least: starring Maria the crazy little Latina.

Rappunswell: featuring Wanda the Fresh Little Soul Sistah.

Fairy Tales for Angry Little Girls is an amusing book that made me think about people and how their lives go, ie. good or bad, depending on their own choices and the consequences that follow. It's fun and interesting!

I just started getting into the angry little girls series after discovering them on amazon a few weeks ago. I have to say the Fairy Tales for Angry Little Girls is my favorite of all of them and the whole series is great. The stories in here are much longer than her collection of short comic strips in the previous books. Every fairy tale was hilarious and my favorites were Snow yellow and the seven short men and maria in "he's no beast in the least." When maria's father dejectedly comes home after being rescued from the beast and has to bring back one of his daughters, she is the only one out of her sisters to show concern for him rather than the gifts he brang back. His response? "My only unselfish daughter is Maria. She asked about me, not her gifts. So I'm going to reward her with a rich husband. Maria, pack your things and let's go!" In RapPunsWell the evil witch who steals her from her real parents tries to raise her as a rapper. The rhyme she teaches her newly adopted daughter? "I am black, my mom is not. But that's okay 'cause I love her a lot!" lol. The fairy tales were all great and I was sad to see each of them end. I only hope that lela lee will create more of these unconventional and hilarious tales!

I read almost this whole book at a bookstore. I was glad that it wasn't as snarky and cynical as I went in suspecting. Yes the humor is a bit dark, but not over-the-top. It's handled in a pretty cute and balanced way. Quite enjoyable--I recommend without reservation. Note: Although the target audience is obviously not children, neither do I think that one has to be over 21 to find this book fun. Might be appreciated by a smart (probably female) teen.
