No Faith At All Hardcover – 2014
"Read this shining collection, and you will come to know a remarkable man with a unique vision of what it means to be human in a world addicted to labels. Lahab Assef Al-Jundi undertakes a pilgrimage through spiritual dimensions. His playful seriousness about religion is fresh, easy skepticism tempered by intuition that 'even a donkey has God in it.' How does one walk into a room without depth?
Make himself comfortable on a blue line?
How can one talk to his silent shadow?
Escape the noisy footsteps of others?
In one of your pockets hides a door.
I exhaled as if that breath had been pulled from me involuntarily. I paused before turning back to the first page. I always have been one to get ahead of myself. There, in that room, as if sitting in a sterile bubble of the universe, I drew in every word, every page, through to the end. I felt suddenly at ease that I did not have to know the answers. It is okay to be lost. It is okay to begin with no faith at all.
If I am a seeker
Trudging up the mountain,
What do I hope to find at the summit?
Myself, of course,
The message within the title, No Faith At All could be easily misunderstood. Is this a manifesto of the godless, denouncing all faith? No. What Al-Jundi presents is a breaking of barriers—a shattering out of the prison of imposed doctrines; the religious confines that separate humanity from self and one another. To begin with “no faith at all,” is to be open to the blank page of possibility—that faith is, infinitely transformative and unique to each of us as it is sprung from within us:
Dip your love pen
Into the inkwell of truth,
And let your own
For me, this book is personal. It is not just about the book as a whole, its auspicious timing, or the friendship that transcends the words it was forged in. Perhaps most importantly, is the way that the written word reaches us within the deep recesses of soul-searching. From the depths of desperation to the heights of exaltation—poetry is a tuning fork that resonates as it penetrates—capable of transcending miles and matter; unsuspecting of its own effect.
This is why our work is so important. You never know how much time you have. Never underestimate how far your words will carry the vibration of your message. No Faith At All is a testament to the power of that effect.
I received the volume with a very special personal note that said exactly what I needed on that day. He happens to live in my city, San Antonio TX. I since have had the pleasure of meeting him and he is a very caring and warm hearted person.
