Tara Crescent is one of my favorite authors. This book is charming, creative, and incredibly HOT! But it also demonstrates a level of emotion that really impressed me. I loved the beautiful descriptions of the greater Toronto area where the majority of the story takes place. Cam and Maddie's relationship is obviously the focal point of the book, and I absolutely adored their story! But the underlying story of the Drake family also takes center stage at various points throughout the book, and it's riveting. The supporting characters are just as fascinating as Maddie and Cam. I flew through this book and was captivated from the moment I began. The emotions are genuine, and I was alternately gasping in disbelief, angry, crying, laughing, and hoping beyond hope that there would be a happy ending. There's nothing predictable about this story, and I loved it. I give Fake Fiancé my best recommendation. Thank you, Tara Crescent, for providing such an wonderfully emotional reading experience. I can't wait to read the next book in this series.
One final note. Please be an informed reader and consumer! This is an ADULT book. It contains explicit language and sexual scenes. If you don't enjoy this genre, think hard before buying any book you know you won't enjoy. There are book synopses and reviews available on Goodreads and all booksellers' websites. Use these resources! DON'T LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW WHEN YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY THE BOOK. It's not fair to the author. She works extremely hard to provide a quality work product. If you know you'll object to the book's subject matter before you buy it, you're doing yourself and the author an extreme disservice.
Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!
Maddie and Cameron had dated for a while but abruptly broke up nine years ago. Cameron didn't understand why Maddie had chosen money over him when he would have given her the world and Maddie didn't understand why Cameron didn't chase after her when she left his families cottage in the middle of their vacation. Needless to say there was a huge misunderstanding but neither of them realized they were being played.
Fast forward nine years, Maddie has to return home for her mothers funeral and Cameron is in a pickle to find a wife so that he may buy the family cottage from his grandfather so that his Aunt Emily may continue living there. She needs money to continue paying for her sisters college education and he needs a fake engagement for about a month sounds perfect doesn't it. Well, it's not as easy as they think it will be especially when old feelings and hurts surface.
This was such an enjoyable read I actually read it twice, the first time was when it was part of a box set and again now. I really enjoyed the chemistry between Maddie and Cameron, there is no denying that they are great together. I also liked seeing Ryder and Zoe from the first book in this series Temporary Wife especially since this time I had read their story and know more about their background and I got to see just how their relationship is progressing.
I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a HOT quick read especially if you enjoy the second-chance-at-love trope or the fake engagement/marriage trope.
The main characters, Maddie and Cameron, are compelling. Well-rounded and grounded in reality, it’s nice to see them grow individually as well as together. The secondary characters are interesting and complete as well.
The storyline, a second chance/fake fiancé combo has tension with just the right amount of angst. Rounded out with some cheerful scenes, romance, and steamy love scenes, it’s an easy, satisfying read.
I cheerfully recommend this enjoyable book to you!
