Faking Ms. Right: A Hot Romantic Comedy (Dirty Martini Running Club Book 1) Kindle Edition
Everly Dalton is a walking, talking, martini-drinking dating disaster. Forget kissing frogs. She can’t even get past the first date. But at work, she’s a badass—the longest-running assistant billionaire Shepherd Calloway has ever had. Her coworkers wonder how she handles the big bad wolf—and never gets bit.
Shepherd Calloway isn’t interested in being anyone’s sugar daddy. Tired of women who only want him for his money, he swears off dating, determined to focus on running his empire. Until his gold-digging ex hits him where it hurts, putting him in a difficult position.
His solution—to have Everly pose as his live-in girlfriend—is obviously crazy. But the timing is uncanny. It just so happens Everly needs a favor from her boss—a big and awkward one—and this could ensure everyone gets what they want.
Besides, Everly can totally survive a few months of faux romance.
Except there’s a problem. Shepherd is supposed to be a single-minded, unemotional robot boss. Not an actual human with a heart and morning wood. Between the awkward bed-sharing and tingly fake dates, lines are blurring. And as Everly gets to know the real Shepherd, she discovers there’s more to the man behind the bank account.
And faking it gets all too real.
Faking Ms. Right is a hot, STAND-ALONE romantic comedy.

Talk about two people who from the outside look they'd be a match-ending in disastrous fashion!
How does that saying go? Looks can be deceiving?!
Happy, sweet, and everyone's friend Everly is ready to give up on dating altogether- her track record within the dating world is bottles of wine worthy.
At least she has her job to keep her busy while she's on hiatus, with her cold and impersonal boss Shepard Calloway, she's the longest assistant he's ever had because Everly knows his emotional cues/grunts or lacks thereof to a tee- keeps the beast calm- she thinks.
So when her arrogant, grump of a boss asks her for the biggest favor- ever- and it spirals into a chaos of the emotional out of their kind, they realize their worlds are about to be thrown into a blender, what will become of them? I highly suggest reading this sexy up and down humorous rollercoaster of epicness and find out!
It's worth every delicious tension-filled, heart pumping, frustrating- swoon-worthy line!
Claire Kingsley keeps upping the ante on her work that grabs ahold of all of me!
Deserves more than 5 magnificent stars!
The first few chapters of a book is crucial. They set the stage for the story by revealing just enough to build expectations, and they need to pull the reader in but without divulging too much. The breadcrumbs dropped in the first chapters should be teasers, they should enable you to guess at some of the story development, but complete transparency is not a good thing. If you're never surprised along the way, if everything in the story happens the way you envisioned it from the beginning, then it's just boring. And unfortunately, Faking Ms Right didn't contain a single surprise.
So, I'm vacillating between disappointment of the predictability of it all, and delight over the juicy story. Because it is juicy and sweet, funny and romantic. Just without an ounce of that little extra.
Also. There's a bit of nooky. I like nooky. Preferably explicit nooky. But apart from the first, really really hot scene in the car (kudos to Kinglsey because that was something else!), the rest of the sexing was quite frankly uninspired. In, out, in out, scratch, spank. The scenes were long, and every other paragraph I was sure they were about to come. Only to discover that they weren't actually coming but going at it harder. So, I guess I was wrong about the no surprises thing. It was rather surprising that Shepherd didn't break Everly's vajayjay with his intense in-outing.
But... this is my disappointment talking. Claire Kinglsey is an amazingly talented author. Her writing is hilarious and the story is delightful. If only there would have been something unexpected thrown in there, it would have been an amazing romance read. Unfortunately, the predictability makes this only an average read to me. Which is truly a shame since Kingsley is obviously a very skilled writer. However, I will have to read more of her novels, because I can't bring myself to write her off just yet.
The phrase “broody billionaire with a hidden soft side” is probably overused, but it perfectly describes Shep. To paraphrase from Claire’s Cocky Roommate, he has a reason to be an bit of an a-hole.
The side characters were amazing as well, from Everly’s BFFs (are Nora and Hazel going to get books? Pretty please?), to Shep’s dad, and all the siblings in between.
Some parts were a little predictable—it was easy to see early on what the “conflict” was going to be at the end—but I don’t think it took away from the story at all.
Of course, there was some amazing steamy scenes (that shower! yum). Some authors try too hard to get the steam in there, but Claire places it perfectly.
My only complaint (and its not even really a complaint) comes from how Shep first “saw” Everly. It took a sexy dress for him to see how awesome she is. Personally, I prefer the “angsty, mutual unrequited crush” scenario, rather than the “how did I never see it before” thing. But I guess that wouldn’t have worked so well if she’d been working for him for three years.
Anyway, this book was amazing. Go read it. But read Everly’s Dating Disasters first. You can see Everly’s truly disastrous forays into the dating world were like, prior to her HEA.
All they do is use him for his money.
He has just broken up with his latest fling and sent her off on a nice vacation.
The only problem is, she went after his father, who happens to open the resort.
Everly Dalton, is an assistant for the illusive Shephard Calloway.
She had survived three years. No one has ever done that.
She is like a breath of fresh air.
Everyone loves her with her bright smile and captivating personality, what's not to love.
When her boss asks her to step in as his girlfriend she does it.
Her sister has her sights set on Shephard, me possibly being a sperm donor, and asked her, to help broker the deal.
Everly, has had one dating disaster after another, so when her boss asked her to move in, because his father will be moving in with him due to financial woes and cancer and along with seeing his ex who he believes is just using his dad to get close to him, she figures why not. It can't be any worse than her dating disasters.
Only one problem, when Shephard, starts to feel, he lets his guard down with Everly.
Everly, also can't help but fall for the real man Shephard is showing her that he really is.
This is a happy ever after story with a great storyline.
Looking forward to the next one.

I’ve read a lot of Claire Kingsley’s books now and I can honestly say that I have loved them all. Admittedly, some I’ve loved more than others, but in general her stories are well planned, with solid structures and written in a style that not only makes them easily to follow but also engages you. She doesn’t get carried away using flouncy or overly complicated language… she writes how we speak. I never feel like I have to work out what she’s trying to say and that in itself makes these books enjoyable page turners that suck you in.
Faking Ms. Right is an adorable Hot boss workplace romance with a little twist. I have to admit that it is a little predictable and that’s the only real reason I’ve given it 4 stars instead of 5… but it’s fun, it’s hot and it’s emotional with loveable characters, steamy sex scenes and enough drama to make your heart do that little flip flop. All good ingredients for a perfect recipe for romance.
The main heroine of this story is the bright, bubbly and adorably friendly, Everly. Not only is she stunningly beautiful with a permanently sunny and cheerful disposition, but she’s smart, organised and professional.
She’s the perfect Executive Assistant, even if her boss, the incredibly successful, business tycoon, Shepherd Calloway doesn’t seem to notice her. Of course he knows she’s amazing at her job because she makes his working life easier but beyond talking business there’s little acknowledgment. Not just of Everly, but seemingly of anyone.
Shepherd is a complicated man. Sure he’s insanely good looking, well respected and oozes confidence, but on an emotional level he’s closed off and guarded which can often be mistaken for a cold aloofness or arrogance. What’s it going to take to warm up those cold blue eyes and encourage him to open up? Maybe a warm ray of bubbly sunshine?
The trouble with both Everly and Shepherd is their love lives. Whilst Everly seems to struggle to get past a first date that doesn’t make her want to vomit or run to the nearest nunnery - Shepherd’s dating history, whilst seemingly a little more successful is equally as dissatisfying. Sure, he’s had his fair share of arm candy and women that are only too happy to parade themselves around as his girlfriend but there’s always something missing, and that is trust. Trust with his money, trust with his reputation and ultimately trust with his heart.
Having just broken things off with his latest girlfriend, Svetlana,(another gold digging hussy in Everly’s astute assessment) by giving her an all expenses holiday Maui (nice touch!) he’s resigned himself to staying single.
Unfortunately for Shepherd, Svetlana’s playing dirty. At a Charity Gala held to honour his philanthropic father, he’s met with his worst nightmare. Svetlana turns up with his Dad, ensnaring him in some sugar daddy style relationship. He doesn’t want her to see him dateless, so he calls the one person he knows he can always rely on to come to his aid. Everly.
When she turns up in an eye catching red dress looking like a movie star, Shepherd can’t believe that he’s never noticed how incredibly beautiful she is. Not only that, but she plays her part in the facade effortlessly. He’s mesmerised.
But it doesn’t stop there. A sudden change in his fathers circumstances sees his dad temporarily living in Shepherd’s condo but with that means Svetlana being there too. In order to keep her away, Shepherd asks Everly to continue the fake relationship including having her move in with him. Initially Everly isn’t convinced it’s a good idea, but she cares about her boss and she doesn’t want Svetlana to get her hands on him. So, of course, she agrees.
It’s not hard to see where this is going to go. Feelings are going to become real and that which was supposed to be a ruse to ward off Svetlana’s unwanted advances will develop into something stronger than either of them are prepared for.
In each other they find what they’ve always been searching - mutual trust and admiration and love. Shepherd relaxes and starts to open up more to her than even his own family. Deep down he’s caring, sensitive and attentive. Eventually they are falling more in love every day.
There are lots of ups and downs and moments where you just want to shout at them to tell each other how they feel - but as it always does, some secret is about to come out that is going to upset what they have built and will it break them beyond repair?
It’s a great story and they really do make such a beautiful couple. They balance each other and feed off each other’s love. She’s the light to his dark. They need each other to make themselves whole. Can’t wait to read the rest of the series now.
Absolutely recommended as are all of Claire Kingsley's stories.
