-Color accuracy (CRI) is as good as it says – excellent.
I bought an 18" FotodioX C-700RSV FlapJack LED Bi-Color Edge Light, hoping I could use it as a fill with the Falcon Eyes, but I simply couldn't use the FotodioX the output at 3200K had an unusably high magenta tint to it. I sold the FotodioX and simply used a large piece of white poster board as a fill. Works like a charm.
-Solid build quality.
This is an off-brand light made in China (I believe), so I have no idea what the quality will be like. If B&H Photo doesn't carry it, I'm skeptical by default. But, this is built well, and it didn't feel cheap to any degree. It's simply "good", and for my needs–it's more than good enough.
-Super soft light.
The softness of this light is ridiculous. It's SO soft. And it's thin! Get it close to the subject, and it'll yield impossibly soft light.
Long story short, I had an issue with the light – it wouldn't turn on with my 7.4 volt NPF batteries (which worked fine with my FotodioX 18" lights). I wrote an objectively negative review, hoping I would get some quick attention. I did. At first, I thought the light was broken, until I learned from their customer support (Lisa) that the light only works with the less popular and more expensive 7.2 volt NPF batteries. I was disappointed. I didn't want to re-invest in 7.2 volt batteries JUST for this light. 7.4 volt NPF batteries are a more popular and cost-efficient voltage standard. Very quickly, they sent me a 7.4V adapter (and they generously threw in a couple NPF batteries for free–wow!). Good news: The 7.4 volt adapter worked!! I can now use my 7.4 volt NPF batteries. Awesome. I could tell they wanted to try to fix the problem fast, so it was a breeze working with them. I could tell that English was not their first language, but they tried their best and did a great job. Thanks again, Lisa!
My FotodioX lights could be adjusted from 10% to 100% brightness. Can't go below 10% (if you do, it simply turns off). The Falcon Eyes SO-68TD Soft LED light is no different. Yes, it says it goes from "1% to 100%", but I put the FotodioX and Falcon Eyes lights side by side and set them both to their minimum brightness. The Falcon Eyes at 1% brightness is the *exact same* as the FotodioX at 10%. Yes, the display on the Falcon Eyes unit will say "1% brightness", but in reality it is just as bright as a similar light at 10% brightness. I think this is misleading, and I don't like it, but this is minor in comparison to the huge benefits this light has over the smaller, less soft, and less accurate 18" FotodioX light.
If you have 7.4 volt NPF batteries (seriously–check), then ask them to send the 7.4 volt adapter (if they don't include it already, which I hope they do!). Buy it. You'll love it. Trust me now, thank me later.
