We met Lenna in book 2, a strong independent woman and a smuggler (think of a female Hans Solo), and in this story she has been planet dumped by the Coalition to serve out her imprisonment for life. This planet has a civilisation that resembles cavemen, and it brought me back to when I once read Clan of the Cavebear, or I should say it's sequel, Valley of the Horses. It was fun reading about Lenna having to leave everything she knew, and learn to become subservient to the men of the tribe that takes her in, learning new ways, rules and language. She is an "outsider" along with Desh, a fellow planet dumpee taken in by the tribe 3 years earlier (Desh is book bait for the next book, and I'm very excited), and the only way for her to become included within the tribe is to be mated. Desh teaches her the ropes, and even acts as match maker with a nudge towards Rone. He teachers her that the women have to choose the men, offering themselves as a mate, in order for the man to accept her, look after her, feed her and protect her. Firstly, it took some time for her to get over her personal feelings of that (LOL), and secondly, it was unnatural for her to chase the man so to speak (although Rone made it all so clear that he wanted her to choose him).
This was actually a lovely slow developing romance, where they each teach something to the other. It's not a silly romance, these are Adult characters behaving in a mature way. And the erotica is very very sexy.
I enjoyed Lenna's personal grooming sessions of her man, which kicked off foreplay ;-)
This does remind me a little of Transendance by Shay Savage, which is a favourite and unique book, and book friends who enjoyed that, will enjoy this - if somewhat more of an adult version and only novella length.
This story is very reminiscent of Transcendence by Shay Savage, which I loved! Lenna has to learn the customs and the language to communicate the Rone and the rest of his people. In the process, she learns to appreciate the slower pace of life and the simple things. She also finds her heart, her home, her Rone.
I am giving Fall: Hold, Book 3, five Boundless Stars, I loved it.
I thought this was my first book by the author but turns out I read Hold when she published it under a different name. I remembered liking the book but I read it before I started writing reviews. This book though, I love, so although I would recommend Hold, Fall is even better. Fall home.
