About the author

I am H.G. Ahedi, writer of the award winning science fiction series Realm. I dabble a bit with crime fiction too. I am the owner of the most vacant apartment in Sydney (it has minimum furniture and more books). My plants do not survive (I have buried four) and if you buy me a good cup of coffee - we are friends forever!
My dream is to find a way into the fictional world, and write about it in real world. I would love to have a cup of tea with Agatha Christie and solve a case with Sherlock Holmes. And of course pick their brains for my books. I spend my weekends with box of popcorn and TV series (mostly sci fi and mysteries). My real life is a bit more sensible or rather boring. I have done a PhD (I don't know what I was thinking) and right now I spend my day handling a database.
So what have I written?

-I don’t especially like starting a book with a list of characters. That being said, I just skipped it. No harm done.
-The fight scenes were a little choppy. I like the speed of them but I would’ve liked a bit more cohesiveness.
-The concept is familiar. It is tackled in an interesting way, but be aware that it’s not a new premise. If you read a lot of science fiction, you’ve likely seen this concept before.
What I Did Like:
+Opening on a battle scene like this sets the scene of the book well and lets us learn characters. Definitely piqued my interest in the book.
+The chapters are long but there are breaking points inside of them to help you pace yourself through the book. I like that.
+The characters are great! They’re interesting and deep enough to carry us through the series.

The tension builds in this well-imagined and constructed story to the climax of immediate confrontation with the leader of the Orias and some tough decisions needed by Commander of the Titan, Anastasia Waters. The outcome remains to be seen in the following two volumes of the Realm trilogy.
I’m not much of a fan of sci-fi, preferring to watch it rather than read. It’s hard work to imagine the futuristic technology invented by writers, and I tend to glaze over after a while—which isn’t to say that this isn’t an excellent read for those who enjoy the genre more than I do.
I read this as part of a book club.

It has spaceships, mystery, and far more within its pages. And its an easy thrilling read that keeps you wondering and wanting more. I will be impatiently awaiting the next one.

Read as part of a book club

It's war with an alien species, coming from shadowy and scary origins, and at the same time there is a mythical device in play. A powerful alien queen is seeking it at all costs, she doesn't care what she lays to waste to find it. There is so much action, mystery and secrets in this book. Its my version of a science fiction thriller.
I loved the characters and the loss of a few beloved characters hit me badly. I wanted them to survive, I wanted to see them in BOOK II and III of the Realm series.
H G Ahedi knows her stuff, if you are a science fiction fan and even if you are not and you haven't read books by this writer you are definitely missing out big time. Highly recommended.
