Olympias City is shaken by a series of unspeakably brutal murders. No one is allowed to know the shocking truth about who the victims are: Guardian Angels.
Someone is hunting the almost invincible cyborgs with the neon-blue eyes. Someone who knows their secrets and who uses a formerly unknown technology.
Promoted to Archangel, Nephilim is in charge of the investigation. It leads her into the underbelly of Olympias’ most notorious district, Oldtown, and also into the Inner Circle, where the elites reside.
Struggling with memory loss, Nephilim barely survives an attempt on her life.
It seems that the Guardian Angels have some very powerful enemies. If this wasn’t dangerous enough, the two other corporate global players, Rosprom and TogbuaXiang, scheme in the shadows to not only bring down the Angels but the entire city of Olympias.
Everything changes when Nephilim accompanies Metatron on a trip to Olympias City III, formerly Rio de Janeiro. There she discovers that nothing is what it seems and that Metatron is much more cunning and dangerous than anyone suspects.
Things get even more complicated when old friends from Nephilim’s past appear. Nephilim will have to decide on what side she wants to stand …
The Behind Blue Eyes saga continues!

Though Nephilim has forgotten much of what came before, she's still an 'Archangel' tasked with enforcing the laws of Olympias City. This near-future metropolis is owned by a megacorporation peddling sex, drugs, and entertainment to its citizens. A mysterious string of murders among the ruling elite Guardian Angels drives a wave of paranoia as Nephilim struggles to reconcile who she is now with flashes of who she used to be.
Mocikat's raw, sensory writing style transports you directly into seedy Olympias City. The audiobook narrators perfectly capture the dark, gritty tone with their performances. Nephilim's character arc explores thought-provoking themes of memory, personality, and destiny versus choice. New readers can enjoy this cyberpunk thriller while fans of book one will appreciate the continuity.
Fallen Angels delivers the dark thrills promised by great cyberpunk fiction. Flawed characters, corporate conspiracies, and violent action come together in a story that questions the essence of identity. I highly recommend this book and can't wait to see what comes next for Nephilim and Olympias City. Mocikat's writing shines even brighter in audio, making this a must-listen for cyberpunk fans.
The author has added characters from the Olympias Police Department who weave an interesting layer into the story and collaborate - to a limited degree - with the Guardian Angels.
The star of the show is Nephilim, who's a multi-dimensional character. She's at ease with humans as much as with other Guardian Angels and has tremendous physical abilities. And the cast of supporting characters is strong.
My only minor preference is the author would be to dial back descriptions of violence a touch. She occasionally went into more detail than necessary for the story.
I absolutely plan to buy and read the next book in the series as well as others she has written. Anna Mocikat is a superb writer.
I received this book as an ARC (Advanced Reader's Copy) from the author in exchange for an honest review. I will start by saying I have adored Anna since the first book of hers that I got over a year ago. I have high expectations from her books and they always bring me joy to read and this one is no exception. I started the book as soon as it was sent to me and had to force myself to put it down. After-all, it took me a year to get this one and who knows when I will get the next one. None the less, I did finish it rather quickly and I am already pining for the next one. I have so many questions.
Nephilim is, as always, an amazing cyborg. I can say that this book did not take the turns that I was expecting. I will not give anything away, but I expected the characters from the previous book to have more of a role. Don't get me wrong; Jake, Finwick, Adriel, Nephilim, and Metatron are still in this book along with some new characters. I just expected them to interact with each other more like they did in the first book. I am excited to see how everything goes together in the next book as there are so many avenues this could take.
With my review of book one I stated that Adriel was my favorite character. I still love Adriel, but I didn't get as much of him in this book. He felt more like a background character than a lovable partner in crime. I hope that in the next book what he did for Neph in book one is brought back into light. I feel that would bring back more of their comradery, even if he is technically below her in the power structure of this book instead of being an equal partner in book one. I will say that I love that Anna made a point for Neph and Adriel to still go to the bar and spend time together outside of work, even though things have changed.
I truly hope that you will give this wonderful steampunk cyborg book a chance, but please please please check out book one while you are at it! It will make everything make that much more sense.

The author introduces two new characters to the series, and they instantly became firm favourites. Which is great timing, as Anna has just announced that she's got a new project centered around these two!
As for the story, it was a marvellous expansion on the world Anna created with the first book. We get to explore a few more cities, which were beautifully described and painted a brilliant cyberpunk image in my mind's eye. I won't say too much in terms of detail, but the character progression for our protagonist, Nephilim, is fantastic.
This is something you don't want to miss, and I'm so excited to continue the series. Cyberpunk perfection.
This is one of the best dystopian cyberpunk books ever written!
Love the dialogue especially in the audio version with two actors playing the male and female roles. That does bring the story to life.
Sex is something of a tool in this world; used for motivation and control. It was something that I didn’t like in the first book and there’s more in the second. From a writing pov it’s done well but just not to my taste.
Overall a good story and I look forward to the next episode
In some senses I knew what to expect. A hard edged cyberpunk-noir tale heavy on the action setpieces and the intrigue. I lean much more toward the harder adult side of fiction, than anything YA, so again I was expecting a touch of horror, a smidgen of sex and a smattering of profanity.
Yup, it's all present and correct. :)
The think I love about Anna's books, and Fallen Angels is no outlier, is that they build a world that I believe could exist in real terms. It's a world I can visualise very easily and could see in vivid technicolor up on the big screen (or small - take your pick!). It's a world that has huge scope for stories, and not just this one relating to the relationship between Nephalim and Metatron. There's so many other details orbiting the main plot that you kind feel like you want to dive into in other novels. The Old Town, the organised crime, the work of the OCPD who deal with the day to day ordinary crime in the city.
While the story centres around the Angels, this world draws you in to wondering what happens outside their influence. I was left really wanting a spin off series that focuses on the more ordinary aspects of law enforcement in this city. Kinda Judge Dredd-like. Anyway, I digress.
Suffice to say, the wonderful world building is simply a backdrop here for a delightfully tangled web of intrigue. All my favourite characters are back from the first book, but with how that book ended (no spoilers!) things are subtly different. Honestly, it took me a little while to wrap my head around that at first, as it feels a little like the hard won empathy for certain characters is now...redundant. But as the story unfolds, you can see that this couldn't be any other way in order for this tale to play out like it is. Thus it draws you into its web again, even making you respect characters you may previously have disliked from the first book. It also sets up some new characters that are wonderful additions and add hugely to the narrative scope.
I don't want to give any spoilers away, as this is a book that is wonderful to read and to uncover those truths for yourself.
It also hooks you into NEEDING the next book in the series ASAP!
