Fallen Angels is the 37th studio album from Bob Dylan. Featuring twelve classic American tunes written by some of music's most acclaimed and influential songwriters including Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Sammy Cahn And Carolyn Leigh the album showcases Dylan's unique and much-lauded talents as a vocalist, arranger and bandleader. The Jack Frost-produced album marks the first new music from the artist since his 2015 release, Shadows In The Night, which also showcased Dylan's interpretations of classic American songs. That album reached the Top 10 in seventeen countries, including #7 in the U.S., with #1 debuts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Norway.

I found Fallen Angels far more enjoyable than I ever expected. I didn't just listen to it as a second album of essentially Sinatra covers, but also as the latest camillian like reconstruction of his career. It genuinely fits, I feel it's genuine, and I can't help but admire the fact that even in his mid 70's he is continuing to explore new music and re-create himself.
Is this one of my favorite Dylan albums; absolutely not, and it's hard to believe it would be so for more than a handful of fans, But as opposed to feeling cheated by Shadows of the Night, "I got" Fallen Angels and enjoyed it in perspective.
If from all the basically bad to mediocre reviews you might consider just downloading one song, get "Skylark". It's really haunting and beautiful.
