This is a beautiful story. It was nothing what I expected, more of a treatise on love and loving than it is about war and death. Absolutely brilliant! - India51

Three years later, nearly half of her country, the Northern Alliance, lies in utter ruins. Yet, over countless battles, she and her brothers- and sisters-in-arms have turned the tide. Now poised to finally defeat Keynosa's powerful Guardsmen army, they are confronted with a threat that may cost them the war. The process that transformed them into the world's most powerful weapons, is also driving them insane.
Despite 42 years of life, losing both parents, and experiencing a painful divorce, nothing could prepare her for the tragedy of seeing her friends slowly fall apart. Yet, they cannot relent. The Guardsmen are starting to adapt. They're preparing a weapon that can stop even a Finger of God.
Hanging by a thread, the Northern Alliance must make its final push towards victory. But, can they succeed before it all falls apart? Can Jocelyn ever hope to live a normal life again? The end may be near, but no one knows for certain whose end it will be.

Undoubtedly one of the best books I have read in a long time. I can’t express how good I think this book is!!!!!
Why are they at war? What are their societies like? Everyone is human, so how did they get there from Earth? Or is there no Earth in this universe? I'm about a third of the way through this book, so I don't think these or any other natural questions one might have about the overall setting will be answered. While I'm sure the author wants to concentrate on the "human interest" part of the story, he needs to pay attention to other parts of the setting. Maybe he could have gone into more depth about the 2 societies, the breakout and progression of the war and even some of the technology. On nation uses rather conventional technology (though apparently advanced) while the other uses biotechnology. They literally have the plants helping them. It's like reading a story told in the first person by some type of special forces soldier 2 years into WW2. Except you don't know anything about WW2 or the world it is on. You just get the fighting, suffering and anquish.
Although Jos is the main character and Patricia was strong in her own right (and definitely had me laughing at times), it was Oa who I fell in love with. Her every breath was to be with her love Chad, and her every desperate need to be with him broke my heart each time. Her character overall broke my heart because I understood her need to stop that physical and emotional pain but still being forced to fight a war in conditions no one should have to fight in.
I appreciate how strong each woman was and I appreciate the fight scenes being as strong and bloody as they were. No damsel in distress in this story!
"I will become Sehkmet, goddess of war. I will become Durga, the invincible. I will become Hine-nui-te-põ, goddess of death. I will become Kali, and bring unto those that stand in my way, hell."
I appreciate how strong each woman was and I appreciate the fight scenes being as strong and bloody as they were. No damsel in distress in this story! And yea, I had a few unshed tears at the end. It was a pretty awesome ending.

I enjoyed this military, genetically engineered soldiers, futuristic book so much! It was from one of the few enhanced female soldiers left, and one of the few that hadn't started going insane. Most start losing some sanity and had to take medicine or go in stasis. Once they go psychotic and killing everything and everyone, they stay in stasis or killed. Fallen Sun is the most crazy and brutal soldier that went into stasis but he is let out for one more mission dispute arguments from the couple that survived the last time with him. Has he been in long enough? Really exciting.
The narrator was so good! She brought warmth, emotions, fear, and so much to this book.
Keep a tissue with you while listening. Great book!
I found the ending although in some ways rough very fitting for the character. Any other choice would have went against everything the character had been represented as and feel wrong.

Fascinating read that kept me gripped from start to finish, duplicitous politicians, warrior brotherhood, hard facts of man at war, its all here.
