I love Jessica Steele, her books are so funny.
This one was not an exception. It doesn't sound funny, but Ms Steele makes both Phelix and Nathan go through such funny situations to get to the end result, you end up laughing your head off.
Nathan has had reports about Phelix from her much loved friend Henry, he even informs Nathan of Phelix's going to Switzerland. Where Nathan follows Phelix around like a lost puppy, and she never sees this until the end of the book.
Phelix is a shy, downtrodden young woman, her father Edward is really responsible for her mother's untimely death.
Edward is abusive to both his wife and only child. Phelix saw her father abusing her mother on a dark stormy night. When her mother ran away she was struck by a passing car.
Phelix has never been able to over come that incident. And it colors her life.
From the back of the book: 'Reunited: the millionaire and his convenient wife.
Nathan Mallory hasn't set eyes on Phelix Bradbury since they conveniently wed. When they meet at an international business conference eight years on, Nathan is intrigued when he sees Phelix is still wearing her wedding ring...
Now a successful lawyer with the independence she's always craved, Phelix is not the same shy, mousy teenager Nathan knew, but a confident and stylish woman. And her transformation certainly hasn't escaped the English tycoon's notice...'

Phelix is a 26 year old corporate attorney, she is supposed to be pretty smart and yet she is NOT. She was a bit irritating. Phelix was tricked into marrying Nathan Mallory when she was 18 and they are still married 8 years later even though she has only seen him twice in all that time: the first time 3 weeks before they got married and the second time when they got married at the register's office.

Phelix's father told her that if she married before she was 25 she would get 10% of her money left to her by her grandfather. He then proceeds to find a groom who would be willing to marry her. Of course he doesn't divulge all of the truth to Phelix and for some reason she never questions him in regards to this. She never says why do I need to marry when you can give me money anyways, or what is in it for you. Why would he want her to get 10% when he is rich? Why would he care? Nope she marries Nathan Mallory who is looking to get a loan from her father in return for the marriage. Of course he father doesn't live up to the bargain and Nathan and Phelix decide to tell him that there will be no annulment and a divorce would take too long for what her father has in mind - which is to get all of her inheritance from her grandfather if she were to marry and then have it annulled or divorce later.

So Phelix gets her money and proceeds to go to law school but then she works for her father's company because he wants her too. He doesn't want her divulging company secrets. Lost me there because even she admitted she didn't know any. Also she seemed to beat around the bush a lot in speech as well as thoughts. Suppose that can be explained away ; 0, but what can't is the fact that she ums and ers a lot in her speech I thought that she should be able to speak more without stumbling.
