Book Description

May 12, 2009 Damaged Heroes
Workaholic Ross Kennedy never learned to enjoy life until he meets the woman of his dreams. If only Laurie Miller can convince him that's exactly who she is.A psychologist with empathic abilities, Laurie rescues Ross, who has been stranded in the middle of a Montana blizzard. The two strangers are completely snowed in and out of contact. In just a few days, their attraction to each other is overwhelming, but Laurie is troubled. Her empathic gift seems to have vanished. Fascinated by his pretty rescuer, Ross struggles to open up his heart enough to let this woman in. When the two return home to Chicago, they try to solve a mystery revolving around a Prohibition Era journal they discovered in Montana. Will they find the missing treasure the journal points to? And as a former boyfriend begins to stalk Laurie, how will Ross be able to protect her?

"Ross Kennedy begged me to write this book. The attorney was 'left behind' in Murphy's Law when Katie chose Seth, the man she was meant to love. But how could I let Ross be all alone? And for a hero like Ross, I needed a heroine just as special - a woman like Laurie Miller who would not only complement him, but complete him." ~Sandy~

4.0 out of 5 stars Compelling paranormal romance October 7, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Compelling paranormal romance. Believable characters, enjoyable dialogue and easy to follow. The paranormal twist is something that one can understand. When the storyline jumps back in time, the author uses a different font. Very helpful for keeping the story flowing. Ross, Laurie, Sheila and Bruiser have a great relationship and I would enjoy reading more of their escapades.

Comment on loving Bootlegger:
"Little me from Hicksville loves a man who has one foot in a jail cell and the other in a grave. Life can be so unfair sometimes."

Sheila giving Ross relationship advice on Laurie:

“It was Magna Cum Stupid, if you ask me.

“You screwed up. Now you’ve gotta fall on your sword. You’ve gotta take a hit and let her see it,” Sheila explained. When he scowled, she continued her explanation.

"Think about it from her point of view. You’ve gotta make a huge gesture that’s obviously hard for you. Maybe even make an a@@ out of yourself.” She put her index finger to her temple and then pointed it at him. “Come to think of it, that shouldn’t be too hard for you.”

I will re-read this story and always look forward to new works by author.

5.0 out of 5 stars With love, peace and many blessings to Sandy James November 28, 2011
This book was my second book that I have read from the "Damaged Heroes" series. The characters rendered by the author are as almost of people that I have known or meet in my "Book of Life". They are as true, real and different as we all are. The events, feelings and acts put into fonts on a paper with such deep intensity that you can't escape of not living and feeling through yourself. Not to reveal the plot of the story, I was quiet surprised and taken by how it unfolded. I thank the Author for this wonderful story with lovely end. Easy to read (it will take you about two evenings) and is- as after a good movie, you will stay with the heroes of the story for some time and wonder: How are they doing? Did I say is-as after a good movie..? I do hope that one day this book will become a script for a "Free Falling". Wouldn't this be great?

3.0 out of 5 stars Free Falling reviewed by The Book Vixen February 8, 2011
By Brianna
Format:Kindle Edition
3 and a 1/2 stars

Why I Read this Book: A few months ago I read Murphy's Law, the first book in this series, and I greatly enjoyed it. Ross was a secondary character in that book and didn't get the HEA he wanted. But that's okay because he gets his HEA in Free Falling. I should point out that even though this book is the second in this series, it can easily be read as a stand alone.

What I Liked: Free Falling is a romantic suspense read with a dash of a paranormal element mixed in. Laurie, the heroine, is an empath; she can psychically read the emotions of others. This is a perfect "gift" for Laurie to have since she's a psychologist. She truly loves what she does and she loves helping others. Laurie coming into Ross's life was a breath of fresh air for him. Ross is a good guy; a good guy who didn't get the girl in the last book. He needs a purpose in life, something other than completely pouring himself into the law firm he works at. I love how Ross and Laurie met and how there was a believable attraction from the start.

All lose ends were tied up by the end of the story. The epilogue was not what I had expected! I like the way things turned out. Also, the book is written in third person narrative, which worked well for this story. (You won't get overloaded on characters' thoughts or any over analyzing like you might find with a first person narrative.)

What I Didn't Like: I wasn't feeling the connection between the journal's story arc and the main story. I got confused at times by the information in the journal. It was hard for me to follow; the poems threw me off. (It should be noted that I am not a fan of poetry. If you are, you may not have this problem.) I had to leave it to the characters to figure out the mystery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Free Falling ~ Damaged Heroes ~ Book 2 January 29, 2016
Format:Kindle Edition
Free Falling is a concept where people with control issues do something spontaneous and unexpected. Ross Kennedy, type A personality workaholic attorney meets his match in Laurie Miller.

From a Montana blizzard rescue, a psychopath stalker, eloping in Las Vegas, and a rescue on the cliff Free Falling is a fun and action packed mystery with lots of romance too. WOW!

Free Falling was purchased as part of an anthology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good November 5, 2015
Format:Kindle Edition
Very enjoyable. This story carries over some of the characters from Murphy's Law. That story and this are both stand-alone although reading them in order does enhance the over all understanding significantly.

The addition of a hint of paranormal was a good twist as was the journal. I liked both. Just from my own point of view, it would have been nice if Ross were more interested in the journal overall. It seemed odd that he wasn't more interested.
