While Jillian takes a trip to Montana to visit her best friend, she ends up having a one night stand with Zack. She's hurt, though, when she wakes up the next morning and discovers Zack left without saying goodbye. So, she puts aside her feelings and flies back home. Months later, Jillian moves to Montana after news that her ex husband's wife is pregnant, something Jillian had been trying to achieve with her ex-husband for years. But while she's in Montana, she sees Zack again, and all the feelings come flooding back. But Zack has his own problems such as trying to take care of his teenage son after his ex-wife abandoned him, and trying to work through his PTSD after the war he fought in. But there's something about Jillian that helps soothe him and he can't seem to keep his hands off of her. Will a one night stand turn into something more?
This is the third book in a series, so while it isn't necessary to read the ones before this, it may help you better understand Jillian and Zack's relationship, because the one night stand happens in the first book, Loving Cara. I really liked Jillian's character—she was quirky, fun and great around Zack's son, and I also liked Zack as a character because while he was often brooding, he was also kind and loving when it came to Jillian. There's a big misunderstanding between Jillian and Zack in the novel, which turns into a big fight, that I didn't think was necessary and it came across as unrealistic, which is one of the things I disliked about it. But the than that, I really enjoyed this one and am definitely going to read more novels by Kristen Proby.
Overall, I recommend Falling for Jillian by Kristen Proby for anyone looking for a sweet contemporary romance.
Zack is a veteran of the Iraq war, struggling with PTSD while raising his pre-teen son, Seth, all on his own. Upon returning back home to his ranch in Montana, Zack discovers that his son Seth had been mistreated for years by his mother, who later abandoned the boy to his family’s care. Zack loves his son more than anything, and has worked hard to re-establish a relationship with him. He wants to make up for the years he was gone… for all of the abuse and neglect that the boy had to endure during his absence from Seth’s life.
Jillian loved the allure of the big city, but when her marriage falls apart and her cheating ex tells her that his new wife is pregnant, Jillian is left devastated. For years, Jillian tried to get pregnant, and despite all fertility treatments, Jillian could not conceive. So, Jillian packs her bags and returns to the comfort of Montana and to her best friend, Cara.
Zack and Jillian are clearly attracted to one another--neither of them able to forget about the passionate night they had once spent together. But a misunderstanding stands in the way of them pursuing anything further. When they finally do clear the air, Zack and Jillian decide to act on their feelings, and soon a relationship between the pair begins.
Jillian adores Zack’s son, Seth, and Seth adores Jillian in return. Jillian is the mother Seth always dreamed of having, and Seth is the son Jillian would give anything to have. As love between Zack and Jillian blooms, new revelations and past ghosts threaten to break the couple apart. Can they overcome the past and push aside the demons threatening to destroy their chance at becoming a real family?
As with all of Kristen Proby’s books, “Falling for Jillian” is sexy, sweet and romantic with a little side of angst thrown in. It’s not too heavy or overly complicated… just a great book to curl up with when you crave a little romance. But the best part? Catching up and getting re-acquainted with the “whole gang” in this series… Cara, Josh, Lauren, Ty, and even Grace & Jacob! I thoroughly enjoyed spending more time with each and every one of them!!
4.5 stars. Kristen Proby is one of my go-to authors, so naturally I was thrilled to dive into the third and final book in the Love Under the Big Sky series. I am tempted to say that Falling for Jillian was my favorite, but honestly I have loved each book in its own way. Proby always delivers exactly what I love: feisty heroines, swoony heroes, and a plot with the perfect combination of humor, romance, and steaminess. Jillian and Zack’s story definitely ended the series on a high note. I finished this book with a smile on my face and a content heart.
Jillian was easily one of my favorite Proby heroines. She was kind-hearted, intelligent, and strong. I liked how she knew what she wanted and always stood her ground. Jillian had backbone and would not let Zack play games with her, which was fantastic. She was tough, but she was also incredibly compassionate. Her scenes with Zack’s son Seth were wonderful. The way she earnestly enjoyed his company and was very protective of him was beyond endearing. It was clear that she would make an amazing mother.
I enjoyed getting to know Zack more. My heart went out to him after what he had gone through with his ex-wife and the guilt he felt after not having been around more for Seth when he was in the military. It was obvious that he genuinely cared for Jillian, and I loved the alpha side of him. I appreciated that their relationship was rooted in friendship first. They complimented each other so well. Truthfully there were a few times when I became angry with Zack. While he made mistakes, I did understood what triggered his reactions.
Falling for Jillian was a great conclusion to the series. It was wonderful to see the main characters from the first two books as they continued to navigate through their lives. Ty’s relationship with Jillian in particular was quite special. I love how Proby creates characters who I want to root for and genuinely love. The chemistry between Jillian and Zack was off the charts, but this book also had an emotional depth to it that touched my heart. I am saddened that this fun and steamy series has come to an end, but I definitely see re-reads in my future!
