Olivia, or Miss Priss as Maverick loves to call her, is a great female lead, and I love how the authors allowed an insider’s look from someone who works her butt off for an author in the publishing world. From Olivia’s perspective, readers see just how much time and effort go into promoting books and how much pressure it can be for an author to keep perfecting the craft, attracting new readers, which, in turn, makes an author’s assistant’s life hectic and more than a little time consuming. Olivia’s focus, for much of the story, is solely on her job, on her schedules, on her daily planners, on the gratuitous number of ‘jobs’ Rachel gives her, but when Maverick is forced into Olivia’s life, basically turning it upside down but also making her life and experience life outside of her job, Olivia starts to see what her life could be like if only she had the courage to be illogical and base decisions on her heart/emotions instead of her head/facts.
Maverick is all kind of hunky goodness, but what I love most about him is that he’s also a stand-up guy. He may flirt a little too much and enjoy female attention more so than other men, but it’s his charismatic demeanor that makes women flock to him and that’s something that just comes naturally to him. I loved getting inside his head and seeing exactly what he thought about Olivia, especially the moments when he started to realize that there is a lot more to the prissy author assistant than he originally thought. The way Maverick shows Olivia with texts/face time that they can make things work regardless of the long distance - that he has fallen for her and wants her in his life was so endearing and it truly showed readers who Maverick is beneath the six-pack abs and wicked smirk.
I love how Olivia and Maverick let down their grounds with each other and learned things about one another that most do not know about them. I could tell even at the onset of their cross country road trip that as much as they got on each other’s nerves and under one another’s skin, there was also a simmering attraction…a connection that allowed them to be who they are behind the personas they seem to always wear.
The narrators who voiced Olivia and Maverick, Vanessa Edwin and Aiden Snow, did a fantastic job in bringing these two characters to life. It was easy to sense the hero and heroine’s fluctuating emotions as the story progressed and the scenes with banter and steam allowed listeners to envision exactly what was occurring in these comical and sexy moments.
Falling for the Playboy by Kennedy Fox is an entertaining, endearing, and smexy read and listening to the audio version of it made a great story even better!
4.5 Poison Apples
Olivia is the best of the best when it comes to organizing someone’s life, especially a romance novelist. And, though a bit of a tyrant, her boss Rachel is an amazing novelist, a micromanager, a control freak, and a perfectionist; she’s hard work but Olivia continues to do her best, which is better than the best. Yet this time around, she’s also in charge of managing the model that graces the cover of Rachel’s romance series, who is along for the book tour ride, and Maverick, well, he’s in a league of his own. Olivia thinks he’s a playboy, Maverick knows she needs to cut loose she’s wound so tight. As they road trip from signing to reading, is there more beneath the surface? As they spend more and more time with one another, can they resist one another, do they even want to? As their two weeks come to an end, as Rachel’s warning rings in their ear, is there any hope?
This is the second book in the amazing Kennedy Fox Bedtime Series, and it is wonderful! Getting to meet Olivia and hear her story, experience her story which was engaging, and get to know Maverick, the man that’s going to change her existence beyond all recognition, it was so much fun! And then Maverick, the loveable playboy that actually has many more layers, beauty that is so much more than skin deep. It took me a little while to warm up to him, but once I was there, I was all in. The pacing of the story is the only thing that threw me a bit, certain aspects feeling just the littlest bit rushed. But all in all, that definitely didn’t impede my enjoyment of the story! Maverick is a wonderful Hero, and as we get to know him better, you’ll grow to adore him just as much as I do, and Oliva, neurotic tendencies aside, ones that I completely identify with by the way being hyper organized, she’s someone that I wish was my friend.
If you haven’t already checked out this series, you absolutely have to! Maverick and Olivia share real feelings, real truths, real emotions, and it’s a beautiful thing to read. I already cannot wait to reread it!
