"This is a warm story about love and romance. Maria Duffy writes with charm and skill. She makes you really care about her characters and want to turn the page to find out what happens to Holly and Josh." ―Sinead Moriarty, international bestselling author of Our Secrets and Lies
"Holly just got engaged to her practical boyfriend, David, and wasn’t prepared to see her first love, Josh, move in across the street with his pregnant girlfriend. Holly and Josh were childhood sweethearts who talked about having a romantic Christmas wedding. But he broke up with her in college, and neither has ever recovered. Holly learns that her sister interfered in the past, and now she and Josh tentatively start communicating in the hope of gaining closure. Instead, they see the problems with their current partners and fall back in love. Both try hard to make things work in their relationships. David does all that he can to stay with Holly, but Stephanie, Josh’s girlfriend, is simply detestable. Readers may be exasperated with characters who can’t see the solutions in front of them, but the engaging prose and appealing minor characters, including an elderly neighbor and his rambunctious dog, make this an enjoyable read. Duffy's destined-love story will appeal to fans of the late Maeve Binchy." ―Booklist

I did really like this story. T made me think back to my first love and how I had soe very happy times then and how special I felt our feelings and relationship was. This story grabs you right from the beginning and doesn’t let you go. I like Holly and Josh a lot but just didn’t really like Steph.
I thought this story was endearing And brought me back to thoughts of my first love and I hadn’t thought about him in a long time. This was a fast easy read. I also liked how the book did go back and give you brief insights to what we find out later were about Holly and Josh. I loved the plot, the characters, and the ins and outs of this story I recommend.
It showed how unhappy they were in their current relationships but I failed to see how them getting together was better. It had been too long and they didn’t know each other anymore. We never really knew them in love so when they ‘fell’ it didn’t seem genuine at all.
The end was too fast, not flowing cohesively like the slow beginning and middle. The transition of the story seemed a bit choppy throughout honestly. I had to keep stopping because the scenes kept changing abruptly and I was like, “Wait, how did we get here?”
Honestly, I almost DNF’d this book but wanted to give it another chance. I regret it. I should have gone with my gut.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book Via NetGalley.
Josh and Steph are expecting their first baby when they move in across the road from Holly - Josh loves his teaching job so why is he not more excited about life and why is Steph acting suspiciously
A lovely easy reading book - great characters and although predictable a very enjoyable read
This was a brilliant book and not just your average soppy love story. There were good, well developed characters. It kept my interest from the beginning and I would highly recommend this book.
