About the Author
Reviewers from Publisher's Weekly to Romantic Times have praised Julie Ortolon's contemporary romance for being "sizzling," "fast-paced," and "filled with genuine heart." Numerous awards for her work include two Bookseller's Best Awards. Almost Perfect, book one of her Perfect trilogy, was a Rita finalist and was named Best Single Title Contemporary of the Year by the readers of Affaire de Coeur magazine.
Julie's road to success as a romance novelist was a bit bumpier than most authors, however. Her struggle with dyslexia left her functionally illiterate until her mid twenties when she discovered romance novels were worth the effort. To turn her favorite pastime, daydreaming emotionally rich stories, into a career, she taught herself to read, type, and use English as a written language, not just a spoken one. Her struggles made hitting the USA Today list with her first title even more rewarding.

This one is great. I appreciated the two leading characters. One with bright ideas and a joie de vivre that brightens everyone's lives;
the other caught up in routine, logic, and family expectations and it is this hum drum life, filled with logical reasoning that is grinding Oliver down. This is a wonderful story of "opposites attract" with a very logical explanation of why they are so perfect for each other.
Not everyone wants to live the life the as planned. They just need the courage (and the catalyst) to break out and be the person they really are, logic with some adventure added in for good measure.
Many a successful couple have a better life than either would have separately. As long as they respect one another. And our characters do.
Someone criticized this story as kind of high school. They must have never lived in a small southern town where everyone comes back home after college. In the case of small towns such as this, that high school friendship circle is related to who your parents were and it is the social circle you will live in the rest of your life. So yes, you will see reference to the "haves and have nots" of those high school days.
The book has a lot of back story in the beginning and it dragged a bit but after a while the story just took off and I don't regret sticking with it because I would've missed out on a great story.
Aurora St.Claire has always dreamed of owning the house on Pearl Island so that it belongs to the true heirs of Marguerite Bouchard. So when running a boat tour in the cove she notices a man placing a foreclosure sign on the yard she jumps at the chance to get some information on it. Her dream is now a possibility and she can't help but being excited at the prospect of owning Pearl Island. She talks to her brother and sister to go into business together, buy the property and turn it into a B&B. But she knows nothing about making a business plan to request a loan from the bank so when Chance offers his help she jumps at it. What she didn't expect was the chemistry between them and all that leads after it. He's so controlled all the time that it's a wonderful sight when that control snaps. Will their emotions get in the way of their business venture and ruin all her dreams? Will she end up with a broken heart? How can she make him see that they belong together?
Chance Chancellor has had his life planned out for him since he was very young. Being a Chancellor was like being royalty and certain things were expected of him. He was to follow in his father's footsteps and that of his ancestors since they arrived on Galveston many years ago. He was complacent with his life so far. He loved working at the bank his ancestors built up from the ground up. However, he wasn't comfortable with seeing a really close friend as more than that. Paige Baxter had been his friend since they were kids and somewhere along the way it was assumed they would end up getting married. She's the perfect match for him, she fits perfectly into his lifestyle but he can't help feeling brotherly love towards her. On the other hand he can't stop thinking about Aurora and finds any excuse to be near her. When they can't turn off their feelings for each other Chance must make a choice between the duty for his family or happiness. Will he break his and Aurora's hearts and lose everything he's ever wanted? But when unexpected news are revealed and there are misunderstandings between all the people involved he's in danger of losing everything before he gets a chance to reveal his choice.
A wonderful story of a haunted house with a sad history behind it. A dream that will turn everything around and what was once a prison for one lonely abused woman will be a heaven for others that will find love there. Beautifully written! I can't wait to read about what happens with the rest of the St.Claire siblings!
