About the Author
Scott Edward Cole was born in San Pablo California in 1965 and has lived in the San Francisco Bay Area ever since. He graduated from San Francisco State University in 1989 with a B. A. in Speech Communications and from the University of San Francisco School of Law in 1992. Later that year, Scott launched his solo legal practice and, in the early years of his career, devoted himself to representing victims of toxic chemical releases such as the one showcased in his book Fallout. Over the next several years, Scott led several other complex environmental cases but, in 2000, shifted the emphasis of his growing firm to workers-side class actions. Since then, he has handled hundreds of consumer and employment class action matters, has authored numerous articles and spoken widely to audiences regarding many of the lessons learned from these experiences.

The synopsis is a corporation with no sense of civic responsibility, severely damaged communities, and a young inexperienced attorney, struggling to keep control over his case under the onslaught from a massive corporate legal team, and from the shark feeding of other plaintiff attorneys getting wind of the case.
My background is technical, the amassing and sifting of facts, so what I found compelling in this book was the mechanics, the behind the scenes description of the legal process and how one handles a project of this scope. I have great sympathy with the obsession of a young man totally focused on the job, to the exclusion of friends and family, as I have been in that same position. I love the detail, but if drama is your thing, there is plenty of that too.
So, drama or details, Fallout will satisfy, and I highly recommend it.
terms along with a passion for amazing legal strategies. Having grown up in the area and being the son of an oil refinery manager, I too have experienced the constant stench refineries produce. Although, this was in the 60's, I thought the EPA had addressed this issue. Scott identified the achilles of the corporation, while empowering "the-once-little voices" of the victims to stand up and take action. This is a classic example of doing-the-right thing while all others are complacently saying "ain't it awful".
