5 out of 5 stars
The story False Assumptions (Players of Marycliff University Book 6) by Jerica MacMillan is a sports/romance book. This is a book about how you can start out with certain assumptions regarding a person and find that sometimes what you believe can be totally wrong. This is the story of Layla Caldwell and Evan Coopman. When they are paired up for a project Layla automatically believes that she will be carrying the project and Evan will be the beneficiary of her work. She knows his reputation and doesn’t expect a lot from him. What she begins to find out is that not everything is as it seems to be. Evan can’t understand why Layla hates him so much. Sure he flirts with her because he finds it amusing to see her reaction however truly doesn’t understand her at all. These two have a project to complete. Will Evan show Layla that he can contribute to the success of their project and that there is more to him than just football and women?
This is a wonderful romance story with a lot of humor. The bantering back and forth between Layla and Evan is humorous and had me laughing out loud. It also is a story that I couldn’t put down until I had finished it. It is the first book I have read by the author and also in this series. I found it easy to follow and there is a bit of background given on the other characters. However, as I loved this story so much I find myself wanting to go back and read the previous books. It is so easy to judge others without even knowing them. That is what Layla has done to Evan. She really believes the worst when it comes to him and his behavior. Then a situation comes up that causes her to rethink her assumptions. A connection begins to form between these two. Will Layla take a chance with Evan and let him into her heart?
Evan is a man that knows he is good looking. He has no shortage of women who would love to go out with him. He is taken aback by the hostility that Layla shows towards him at first. As they get to know each other better Evan finds that he has feelings for Layla. Can he convince Layla that he is not the man she thinks he is or will his reputation get in the way of any chance they may have? Read this story to find out if Evan and Layla get their happy ending! This story has adult situations which include steamy love scenes. It would be recommended for those 18 years of age or older.
Evan Coopman, “Coop” to the guys on the football team, is the last single guy in this group of friends that comprise the series. Having only seen snippets of Evan in previous books, I really had no idea what to expect—other than his dark hair/blue eyes good-looks, an enormous ego, and a reputation for having seduced at least half of the female population on campus. So, when he gets paired up with Layla Caldwell for a World Lit project, it’s enemies at first sight. For Layla, that is. She’s seen Evan operate—that sexy smirk and smooth talk may work on other girls, but she has no desire to get burned again by some dumb jock who sees her as nothing more than a challenge. She’ll deal with him for the sake of the project, but he can sexy smirk and flirt till he’s blue in the face, she’s not interested.
Layla’s snarky, cold-shoulder treatment has Evan feeling all kinds of interested. Which only confuses him because … he has no idea why. Other than he’s compelled to learn more about her, to get to know her. All he has to do is break through that tough shell, but he’s willing to work for it. As Layla’s assumptions about Evan begin to fade away she sees the smart, sincere, fun, and caring guy he really is. And it doesn’t hurt that their chemistry can melt the paint off a car. But it all just seems too easy. Has he changed his ways or will she be left with a broken heart?
False Assumptions is another beautifully written addition to this series that has earned a special place in my heart. Five sizzling, snarky, sexy smirking, smooth talking, angsty, loads of fun stars to this wonderful book!
