Review

"The is so new and different from her I can't help but get excited at how well she did with the subject matter. She made it so real for me with the deep emotional drama and the in your face facts of addiction. It just blew me away." ~ Just One More Romance

"It takes a special talent to write a book about a harrowing subject like drug addiction and loss and make it touching and affecting but not depressing. Michelle Lynn has done that."~ Give Me Books

"This book is a perfect book if you're looking for a stand alone. Michelle Lynn writes amazing stories, where you get both POV's and has the angst, love, and struggle of love written into a beautiful story. I highly recommend Familiar Ground, it's one of the best Stand Alone books I've read this year!" ~Reading Past my Bedtime

Wow, what can I say? Familiar Ground by Michelle Lynn was absolutely amazing! The way this story is told, the flow of this book, the characters, the hardships, everything about this book is simply amazing!

Familiar Ground is a stand alone book, so you get the entire story now instead of waiting to see what happens! We meet Leah and Adam who are brought together due to some unfortunate circumstances and their lives are thrown upside down in the matter of a few days. Enter Dani, the niece neither one of them knew existed, who I may add is the most adorable child ever in a book!

Leah and Adam are attracted to each other, you can tell that immediatley, but don't want to act on their feelings, because a. Leah has a douchebag boyfriend, and b. if things go sour, that would put Dani as the loser in their game of love. Finally their hearts over power what their heads are telling them, and you are taken on a remarkable ride with their new found love.

I loved how Leah and Adam's characters were the main characters of this story, but how we also got to see Adam's parents, Shane (Leah's brother) and most importantly Dani. I loved how these two did everything they could to make sure Shane got the help he needed (even if they were weary at times) and how they always had Dani's best interests at heart.

Just when everything is going perfect, something happens that makes your heart sink, and you are worried about their relationship, can they survive what happens? You'll have to read this one to find out!

Dani, Leah, and Adam make an amazing trio, and I loved each of these characters, after awhile I even started to like Shane!

I really liked the storyline. However, reading through the book was a difficult task for me. My mind kept wandering to other places, and I think it was due to the writing. While the story and the characters were good, the writing itself wasn't.
There were many -many- grammatical errors that were annoying. I kept wondering how on earth this book went through an editor and the author's consulting friends, and still came out on the other side full of so many mistakes (the likes of punctuation marks in wrong places, that had me re-reading sentences in order to understand or to regain the right flow of things; or plenty of 'your' instrad of 'you're' and vice versa).
Moreover, the writer made the strange choice of writing the entire book in present tense. It took me some time to get used to, and I would have respected it as a literaty choice if she would just keep up with it. But from time to time her use of tenses was all over the place, and I just found myself becoming confused and losing the cadence of my reading.
English isn't even my first language (as might be evident by typos), but the low level of English writing here really threw me off, and ruined what would otherwise be a very pleasent reading ecperience.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The main characters, Leah and Adam meet when they find out they share a niece, Dani through Adam's sister Cassi and Leah's brother Shane. This story is about drug addiction and how it has impacted Adam's family and Leah's. I really liked how there was no unnecessary drama and it wasn't too long or too short. I can't wait to read more books by this author.

I must give Familiar Ground 5 STARS!

Michelle Lynn is awesomely talented as showcased in her newest novel, Familiar Ground. She managed to capture a host of emotions with the themes of the book--love, loss, family, forgiveness and above all romance. Addiction may have brought Adam and Leah together (and threatened to tear them apart). But addiction to their story is what kept me glued to my iPad!

unfortunately this book didn't do anything for me and was in fact pretty bland and boring. Its more of a story of those recovering from the loss and devastation of loosing those they love to addiction. Leah's brother drops his 3 year old daughter Dani off with her to care for while he goes to rehab. Adams sister who is Dani's mother has died of a drug overdose bringing them into each others lives. Neither of them knew of Dani. As they care of Dani and go to family counseling they become closer. The H & H do not share their first kiss until 50% of the book. There is no drama at all until about 75% in when his sisters drug debt needs to be paid and Adam has to work for the dealer to pay it off. No great romance in this book and the epilogue is more about Dani and her dad being able to live together and he is doing well in his life

**3.5 Stars**

I finished reading Collaboration the day this book was released and was super excited to read more from this author. Unfortunately, this story just didn't hold my attention, I was never really sucked in and I'm not sure why. I liked the storyline and definitely felt the connection between Leah and Adam...even Dani was cute! The writing was okay as well, with dual POV's.

Leah and Adam are brought together because of their siblings' addictions to care for their niece. I loved Adam! He was sweet, patient, kind, loving and protective. I liked Leah as well and the pacing of their relationship was great. The bond that was formed between Leah, Adam and Dani was beautiful and I enjoyed their interactions! I was also happy with how things turned out with Shane and the grandparents.

Overall, Familiar Ground was a good story. The ending was okay...I would have liked more of a HEA, instead of a HFN. Looking forward to reading more from this author!
