Written by T. J. Blake, “Familiar” is a very interesting story that gave me goosebumps multiple times. It starts dramatically with an interrogation for some sort of investigation, led by Detective Barnes. Main character Arabella is the suspect. Then we jump back in time.
Arabella is a psychic medium who can see and speak to the dead. Not only that, but she has a sixth sense where she can look at someone (who is alive) and see who is attached to them - usually a loved one, sometimes someone who is haunting them. Her power even allows her to see deep into someone’s soul - she can see their true feelings and personality and even see their past.
Arabella enjoys speaking to the dead and exposing their untold stories. But there are some stories that require some investigation from herself… it’s this passion that lands her in trouble.
It’s an interesting story which always tested me and made me wonder about certain aspects of the stories, and more importantly, the characters in the book

🖤3.5 Stars🖤Arabella is a medium. She can see and talk to those that have passed on, and she’s made a career out of it. She has a TV show, a special persona she shows to the public, and only calls the ghosts she sees “friends” even when they are evil to the core. Then there is a murder and everyone thinks she did it and she becomes public enemy number one.🖤The main plot and ideas of this story were wonderful. I loved Arabella and her story. Her adventure to find the true murderer and prove herself innocent, even though she’s not the adventurer type, was great. The twists and turns throughout the story were wonderfully woven in.🖤There were a lot of side plots added in that didn’t really make sense to me. They didn’t really add to the current storyline at all and didn’t add any background information. Also, some of the flashback scenes were fine but then later in present day they happened again word for word and I didn’t understand the point of that either. Especially on audiobook it made for a drawn out scene. Aside from that, I really enjoyed the story. I did like that the author didn’t try to force a romance between the main character and the cop investigating her, I was cringing waiting for that trope to happen and was delightfully surprised when it didn’t.🖤 The audiobook overall went by really fast and it was enjoyable. This is a great suspenseful thriller supernatural mystery read for fall.
