Product Description

Product Description

You'll have to step up your strategic thinking skills if you want to win Stratum. Each player follows specific layering rules to cover up their opponent's pieces while exposing their own. The more exposed your pieces are, the more likely you are to win. You'll have to think one step ahead to win this clever game. Stratum is made of high quality wood, and includes a game board and enough pieces for 2 - 4 players. For ages 8 and up. From Family Games, provider of games, puzzles, and kits to entertain the whole family.

From the Manufacturer

Strategy skills get stepped up a notch when space runs out on the board. Then the game continues on top of the previously played pieces! Following specific layering laws, each player tries to cover up their opponent's pieces. In the end, the more exposed player comes out the winner!

I attended 2009 Mensa Mind Games. Stratum was one of this year's five winners of the coveted Mensa Select seal. Your playing pieces are tiles of 4 connected hexagons. Each player has a different color. You layer the hexagons, trying to cover up your opponents' tiles while leaving your own revealed. The player with the most hexagons still revealed at the end of the game is the winner. I enjoyed this game enough to buy it when I got home.

I'm a harsh critic and I feel guilty not giving this game five stars. What it does, it does so well. The board and pieces are beautiful, I love wooden games, and the play dynamic is easy to learn, plays quickly and is pure skill. It just isn't quite as deep as my favorite abstract games are, though, I may be missing something, because this is the game my wife ALWAYS wins!!!

The game length is short as it ends very fast- esp if the players are strateic game players...the wooden game pieces and colours are good, the game inviting but it ends fast and not as thought provoking as we thought it would have
