The book starts with Josie and Chase who share a night together. They don't exchange names or information. Each of them is going through a difficult time in their life and I think they wouldn't of done it if they both weren't so emotionally distraught at the time. Four years after that night Chase moves into town and purchased unbeknown to her property on her land that she was selling. Chase has some unresolved issues with one of the towns for bearers and doesn't know that Josie lives in town and sold him the land. Josie has a lot of secrets that she is hiding and so does Chase. I really liked Chase in the book and Josie likes people to like her. She lives in a small town and these people are the only thing she knows and loves, so I can understand her reluctance in the situation that she has put herself in and how she wants to do the right thing, but she is too afraid of the repercussions. The ending is a little glossed over and may make people roll their eyes, but the author had a difficult task ahead of her and I think she did a decent job of wrapping it all up.
The reason I am hesitant to review this book is first of all I don't want to say anything directly about the plot because it seriously was a shock to me. I seriously didn't see a certain aspect of this book coming. Whether you like this book is seriously going to be determined on your morale standings and what you would consider right in certain situations. After reading this book I still don't know what I would do in these circumstances or if I could understand why someone would do what Josie did. I don't want to give the plot twist away, but this book really made me think if I had a friend like Josie would what she did seem like the right thing to do or a selfish thing on her part. I think for each person it will be different. So interesting read overall.
