Screwed up my trackpad

This does the job, however, it screwed up my Macbook Air's trackpad. Because of this thing's thickness, when the Air's lid is closed, this thing presses a bit against the trackpad. Over time, my Air thought the trackpad button was constantly being pressed, and so whenever I moved my mouse it would annoyingly highlight text or drag things around. No good!

Fortunately I was able to fix this by literally bending (slightly) my Air. The button "popped" back out.

I reviewed this for [...]. The C-Slide Plastic Webcam Cover works as designed and is effective but is not a practical solution for use on cell phones, tablets, or laptops. It would be better suited to larger fixed applications like webcams used with televisions or desktop computers.

The Good
The cover sticks to the surface with double-stick tape and the cover slides side to side to open and close, so there is only one moving part and no pieces to keep track of while in use.

The Bad
The cover is large at 40mm long, making it nearly impossible to use on a laptop without covering the indicator light, microphone, or ambient light sensor when in the open or closed position. It is also impractical to use on a cell phone because the cover sticks out to one side when open and the other side when closed, always leaving part of the cover protruding where it will easily snag.

Conclusion
The C-Slide Plastic Webcam Cover is a reasonable choice for larger fixed position cameras in meeting rooms or televisions but is not a practical choice for use with smartphones, tablets, or laptop computers.

I have now tried three different products from Amazon

I have now tried three/four different products from Amazon to hide the cameras on my computers. The i-Stop, the CamPatch and both of the SolPal C-Slide Web Cam covers.

There is the i-stop with a snap open case that is just a poor design. I did not even bother gluing it to my computer. The snap was too hard to open.

There is this product, the SolPal C-Slide WebCam covers. I ordered two versions of this product and both showed up with even more annoying logo branding than the CamPatch. After a back and forth with the owner, where I explained with screenshots that the product I received has logo branding, but his product pictures do not, he sent me new product with no branding.

These were OK except that the iMac gets really hot, and the glue was melty which resulted in the SolPal WebCam covers moving a little, and since the glue is not re-stickable like the CamPatch, you end up trying to level it and leaving glue marks.

One other point to mention, is that unlike the C-slide with the little eye on it, you have to look closely at this one to see if it is Open or Closed. My iMac is black around the rim so this C-slide blends in with the iMac. This is wonderful if you want it to blend perfectly, but I found myself checking all the time if it was open. This would not be an issue if the rim of the computer were silver. If Ron the C-Slide guy could upgrade the glue and consider an option with a small eye to know if it were open then this product would be a winner.

In the end, I chose the CamPatch, despite that it also has an annoying logo on the front. It was the lesser of evils. I always know that the camera is covered. I don't have to worry about trying to remove sticky glue and scratching my screen. I can move it around all I like and re-stick it with out a problem.

Even if you don't slide it frequently, just with the wear and tear of opening/closing your computer lid, the adhesive will start to wear down. Simple, effective deign, it just needs more durable glue.

Might Not Fit Your Mac

This is a very handy little cover. If you ever need to cover up the webcam on your laptop or phone, tablet etc... this can get the job done. One thing you should know is that it is slightly too thick for a macbook pro with retina display. The laptop will not completely close up, thus making this webcam cover far less usable. For other devices this is very useful if you ever need to cover up the webcam.

Poor Quality & Lack Durability

Product attaches easy enough but the adhesive strips aren't very strong and the slide it too fragile. The tabs on the ends of the strips which are supposed to prevent the slide from sliding completely through aren't high enough so if the adhesive strips do hold then you'll likely just lose the slide. Luckily there's three in the pack so you have back-ups for when you evidently have to replace it.

These are very thin and flimsy, and don't seem to be constructed all that well. They do the job, and I'll use it until it breaks. Be aware that this may raise the screen of your laptop a bit when it's closed, since the shutter does have some width to it. It's not a big deal, and I like this much better than using a piece of tape. The cover makes the lens a bit harder to clean, since you can simply wipe it with a cloth, as the shutter gets in the way.
