The book provides some insight into how mental illness looks in the real world. The medical books don't begin to do it justice and the news stories about worst case scenarios don't really offer much enlightenment either. You get a real feel for some of the crazy and crazy-making behavior.
Whether you know nothing about mental illness or are living with someone with bipolar disorder, I think you will find this book an interesting read. I don't read a lot of memoirs, so I had a bit of trouble with a story that didn't always follow a standard plot, but real life never does. It's a story that needs to be told and a story that seems eerily familiar. My husband also has bipolar disorder.
