I listened to the preview songs once and promptly downloaded the MP3 version to my computer. I'm on my third non-stop listen and it just gets better and better! If you like Folk, Bluegrass, Mountain or Celtic music, you won't be disappointed. I didn't know Kevin Costner possessed such magnificent musical abilities! The song "I Know These Hills" is superbly sung by Sara Beck and it sends chills up and down my spine every time I hear it. Buy the CD or download the MP3 version and see if it doesn't have the same effect on you...

5 Star CD! Let me start out by saying, only two songs are actually from the movie. The other songs are or were inspired by the movie. kevin costner and Sara beck do an excellent job singing and bringing you back in time and thinking about the way it was in singing back in the day. The songs are not hillbilly bluegrass or junk music. They are wonderful folk music to be listened to and contemplated by anyone. Maybe on your ipod down by the river or sitting under an oak tree in your back yard or just in your living room. Whatever makes you just sit and listen and ponder the words and music. I've lived in the mountains of Va for over 50 years and can honestly say country folk can be some of the finest folks you could ever meet or want to meet. Listen to the music and remember the times they fought and the times they fought just to live. The music will move you to remember.......

Not to be confused with the Hatfields & McCoys (Soundtrack from the Mini Series), this is a companion album of music from and (mostly) inspired by the miniseries, as written and performed by Kevin Costner and members of his band Modern West. But that does not mean it is a bad album. On the contrary, it is terrific in its own right! The majority of the music is rooted in the sounds of Appalachia, making it an authentic-sounding companion album to the series. Of the nineteen tracks, nine are instrumental pieces, played mostly on instruments such as guitar, violin, banjo and dobro. All of these pieces are fantastic! As for the ten main songs, they are mostly terrific as well. Highlights include "How Deep the Water Runs," "I Know These Hills," "Oh, Malley-Mae," "Peace in the Valley," and "Devil's A Long Way from Home." The only drawback to this album is the strange-sounding and poorly sung "I Look to No One." Despite this one questionable song, this is a terrific album that fans of the traditional Appalachia sound will definitely want to own.

I enjoyed the deep bluegrass and country tunes that this album gave. It is a true representation of the music you heard during the History Channel movie.

The project is awesome - buy it! This music captures the spirit of the Hatfields & McCoys as depicted on History Channel. The show was absolutely riveting. And is it only me, or does Kevin Costner look like he was born to ride a horse and carry a rifle? The whole mini-series was perfectly cast. The story was brilliantly told. The soundtrack, also brilliant.

When you hear the name Kevin Costner immediately his expansive acting career comes to mind and not music. I read before and while filming the TV mini series, Hatfields and McCoys, the concept was hatched for this release. Costner not only gave a stellar performance but provided a great musical contribution to a new growing music genre which is very hard to place. Not country, more of an earthy backwoods soul music.

I've read that Costner was well into music long before his acting career took off which I found very surprising. I guess it all started back around 2007 and 2008 when his band started touring and their first album was released. They released a second album in 2010 and another in 2011.

The music is great, the lyrics are amazing. I guess Kevin is the full meal deal. Five stars for sure!!

I saw the video for "Famous for Killing Each Other" on YouTube and hopped over to Amazon to see if I could find Costner's music. I did. I bought this. I enjoy it. Kevin Costner can actually sing and his band does a fine job backing him up. Folksy and country with guitars, banjos and fiddles, this is probably not what you would expect from Kevin Costner. But it's a really enjoyable CD. If you're a fan of his, you definitely want this CD.

I absolutely love this CD. I'm not a country/bluegrass/folk music lover at all but I really like this CD. There's more instrumental tracks than I expected, but they are really pretty. It's a nice balance between instrumental and voice. My favorite two tracks are #4 and #15. I highly recommend this CD!!
