I love that Angel writes such kick-ass heroines.
The story within the story was very well done. I almost want her to write a Zocopalypse story so that I can learn more about Alex, Wyatt and Cole.
There is a LOT to be said about a book that you pick up and 20 pages later KNOW just KNOW in your bones that you are going to love. Thats exactly what happens to me EVERYTIME I pick up a book penned by Angel Lawson. Ive been fangirling over her for years now. Her writing simply stuns me.
Ruby fell in love with a graphic novel because of her no good cheating ex boyfriend. The fact that he was an ass didnt stop her from creating a fan site with her best friend, Iris. It was a pretty decent website to the girls were pretty dedicated. So much so they created a small short film starring Ruby and directed by Iris. Sure they thought they would get a few hits but it went viral. VIRAL! I would DIE. DIE I tell you and not reanimate because im not a zombie person at all. I dont like them cant do it. Its just not for me. While others are obsessed I totally respect that its just soemthing I have YET to get behind. So that being said this book isnt really about zombies more a behind the movie and Ruby’s life kinda book. To be honest I was expecting zombies and kinda dreading it.
Living in the limelight is something really unexpected for Ruby. She really never thought of herself as the true heroine just filling the roll for Iris. But it becomes clear Ruby is definitely the girl for the job her passion comes through and I love that. Incase you cant tell im a very passionate person when I love something I go balls to the wall for it.Read more ›
By the end of the first chapter I was smiling at the witty charm from Ruby and Iris. Lawson sets a good steady pace for the plot that keeps it moving. She weaves energy among all of the main characters and you feel excited for Ruby and Iris as they naively navigate their way through sudden stardom.
The story was fun, cute, humorous and just overall very entertaining. I even learned a bit about the world of zombies (my husband & son will be so proud!).
And one final thought: I liked the creative artwork at the beginning of each chapter. Artwork in books is a rarity so it was nice to have a little visual pleasure to go along with the story.
I'm very happy to give FanGirl 5 stars and I hope future readers will feel the same.
From a technical standpoint, I also really admired the amount of time and effort it must have taken the author to get all of the formatting right for this e-book release. There are numerous footnotes, passages of text messages, and excerpts from Twitter message boards and fan blogs. The fact that it all works pretty seamlessly and without any errors is a credit to the author and editors.
This is a fun and engaging summer read. I actually loved the Zocopalypse storyline so much that I hope Lawson will write more about this fictitious book and its characters in the future!
This is a story that every Fangirl/boy dreams about. I mean, how many time have any of us thought about meeting that special actor or writer or celebrity that we might or might not obsess about? But not meet like, say, saw him/her at a restaurant and approached and said hi or got an autograph, but meet as in really become involved in their lives? And in the coolest way EVER?????
We meet Ruby and Iris who are BFF and complete fangirls, website and all of this Zombie books that are completely awesome. They made a fan trailer and it has gone viral in their fandom. They also go to the coolest school ever. I want to go to that school! Why did I not go to that school????? Damn it! Back to my review.
There is also Gabe, the writer of the Zombie books and completely adorkable guy whom I might have a crush on. Swoon! He went to the same school a few years before the girls went and it's a "celebrity" nowadays. He comes to give the graduating speech to the class and meets briefly Ruby and Iris, who he recognizes from the fan video ( because of course he has seen it!, aren't all authors/actors checking into their fandoms constantly???)
At this fiction version of ComicCon, Ruby and Iris meet Gabe again. Actually he helps Ruby get out of a tricky situation and they get to chat a bit. Next thing you know, the girls have press passes for the next day Zombie panel and let's say that from then on, Ruby's life takes a complete 180.
I won't go into details about anything else, but let me say this. This book was so much fun to read. It lets you see how a big popular fandom operates, and the incredible things that can happen to anyone.Read more ›
