If I can boil it down to one reason - one reason why you should watch Fanboys - it has to be this: Kristen Bell looks mighty fine in her skimpy Slave Leia outfit. There's also that if you've a love or fascination for the Star Wars franchise, well, sir, this film is an unabashed love letter. The screenplay is by Ernest Cline who wrote the amazing sci-fi thriller Ready Player One, and Ernest Cline is like the idiot savant of pop culture references, except minus the idiot part. Even Joss Whedon says, "Hot damn, this guy's crafty!"

Fanboys takes us back to an infamous era, back to when George Lucas could do no wrong and Star Wars Episode One: The Phantom Menace had yet to be released and nerds all around were clammy with anticipation. On October 31, 1998, in Ohio, four childhood pals with a shared obsession for all things Star Wars unexpectedly reconnect at a Halloween bash. One thing leads to another, nerd passions are rekindled - and factor in, also, that one of the dudes is dying of cancer - and the quartet soon embark on a cross-country trek to infiltrate George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch and steal away with a rough cut print of Episode One months before its official release.

As odysseys go, this one's fairly uneventful, that is, if you disregard the po-po and getting thrown in the clink and those angry, vindictive Trekkies and that one incensed p!mp and that pretty messed-up g@y bar. Fanboys is a boisterous coming-of-age story, yessir, and it says stuff about friendship and loyalty and eventually putting away those childish things but maybe holding off on that for just a tiny bit longer. Fanboys is also raunchy and funny and there's a lot of Rush being played (not at all an awful thing). There met be nerd-on-nerd violence as our four Star Wars hardcases tangle with a crew of Star Trek maniacs. We also learn that there may not be much of a difference between a garage and a carriage house.

Do the four chums stay the course and accomplish their far-fetched mission? I won't say. I will say that the surprise cameos are pretty sweet, although I'll defer from dropping any names. And while the gags and jokes regarding the source material seem to be genuinely affectionate in tone, there are those occasional snide remarks that let us know the filmmakers are well aware of the fallout to this second batch of Star Wars films. When the friends are finally poised to view Episode One, one guy turns to another and, in a slightly panicked voice, asks the unthinkable: "What if it sucks?" That kid must've been prescient. Lastly and again, Kristen Bell is so hot in that Slave Leia outfit, my lightsaber went "Hhrrrmmm!" I also got a b0ner.

Thank goodness! this isn't a new movie. If these sorts of movie gets released these days it will be an instant flop. Fanboys is a 2009 totally overrated under-cooked comedy film. It does have very little interest in portraying the *real* fanboys but this movie is totally about those American grown-up men who act like children. If you like such forced comedy then this movie might be just for you. I think Kristen Bell who plays the role of "Zoe" of all the odds was the only grown up in the bunch.

I do not know how George Lucas was convinced about this the idea that the film producers can use artworks in this movie and somehow got his approval? maybe the original version of the movie got his approval but the producers somehow managed to release this crappy version (After much delay) by removing the more serious cancer plot from the film and replace much of it with often sexually explicit, vulgar forced humor version.

Either-way, This movie isn't total trash and just enough worthy of 2 1/2 stars.. generously rating it with 3 stars!

this film is a must-watch. It's not everyday you find films that are of this level and while I'm both stoked I found and watched this, I don't know how long it will be before I find another quite like it. There's only one Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, this is up there. Laugh out loud funny and a guest cast and normal cast lineup that is gold. I personally put this into my list of cult classics as it became an immediate. Everyone has different tastes in flicks, but this one hit just right when I hit play. I think you'll dig it as well.

I had heard from many sources how good this little movie is, but hadn't actually seen it until picking it up recently. I was actually very pleasantly surprised at how effective it was. Partly a go-for-broke homage to all things Star Wars and part "road" picture, at its heart is still a very nice story about a bunch of friends who never really grew up taking one other friend to try to get a peek at Star Wars Episode I before it actually comes out. Fair warning to all Star Trek fans out there, though...these characters are absolutely brutal when it comes to treating the Trek fans..so hope you don't get offended easily! Other than that, the movie is harmless, full of good humor, and really quite touching at times...

Whilst the title is "Fanboys", meaning hardcore Star Wars fans, this movie is suitable for all levels of fan. It is the story of a road trip of a lifetime, crossing America to sneak into George Lucas' home to watch Episode 1 before it is out in cinemas because one of the friends is dying of cancer.

There are a lot of fun references in the movie, and some special guest appearances by actors from the Star Wars films. Some of the references are obscure, for those real Fanboys out there, but most are obvious and add to the wit and humour of the movie.

I recommended this film to a lot of friends, all of whom have differing levels of knowledge of the movies and all of whom enjoyed it a lot.

The Blu Ray transfer is fine, and there are enough extras on there to keep viewers entertained.

All in all, a great movie!

The story is set in October/November 1998 just six months before the new Star Wars movie will be released.
Four childhood friends and lifelong fans of Star Wars decide to act on a fantasy to sneak into the Skywalker Ranch and steal a copy of Episode 1: The Phantom Menace.
On their way across the country from Ohio to California, they encounter all manner of awkward situations.

The movie has all the Star Wars references you would ever expect to find, plus cameos
from the Star Wars actors of the original trilogy and one from Episode 1(see if you can tell exactly who that is). William Shatner also makes an appearance as well as Seth Rogen in three different roles, two of which are easy to spot but the other is a little bit harder. There are other appearances from famous actors and references to actors as well.

I came across this movie in the video store one day almost a year ago and thought this is my kind of movie and I was not disappointed. It is told in hindsight of the late 90's, so you can also watch it with a sense of nostalgia as it makes reference to a lot of other science fiction shows, movies, music and actors.

I absolutely love this movie, it's amazing and Star Wars fans will love it also!

This is one of the greatest comedy films ever made, so funny you will be crying most of the time! set during the year 1999 a bunch of starwars geeks are waiting for the release of episode 1 the phantom menace and decide to go on a road trip to see a copy of the film at the lucas home. this is great for fans and non fans alike as it really makes fun of the fact that the hype wasnt worth it. so many great jokes towards the whole franchise and to star trek too. there are many cameos from actors from both starwars and startrek, the best cameo is from Seth Rogen, really funny scene! a must watch for comedy fans alike. original and well thought up jokes.

I started to watch this film ready to scorn it for it's use of obvious humour with a popular established franchise, especially one that i happened to have a bit of an interest in. (It also doesn't help if you are completely, utterly, madly, grammatically obsessed with it as well!!)
However i found myself laughing out loud the majority of the way through! Ok so all the jokes are Star wars related, but they were good! Even my ("Oh, do you think its time to take off the Darth Vader costume!?") girlfriend found it generally entertaining!

Cast is great considering every film Baruchel is in, his whiney tone of voice makes me want to punch an ewok in the face. Hard! In Fanboys however his character calls for a bit of whiney! The cameos were particularly awesome Seth Rogan has a great role(s) and i think Green Hornet was not a patch on this performance. (He's a trekky!! it's awesome!) I dont want to spoil the other cameos for you but ill try to sum up my favourite in two words.........Danny Mcbride!!!!!!!

Overall i will issue this decree, if you are a SW fan or a Sci fi fan you will at least giggle at this movie, but give it a shot! it only enhances your love for the SW at a time when all we know maybe lost. (To an evil corporation run by black circle eared, fruity, devil mouse.) If you are not it will be harder for you to enjoy.

Avoid at all costs if you are william Shatner!

I heard a lot of people talking about this one and it certainly lives up to it's rep. Is a good film and if you are a geek and especially into Star Wars then will love it. Plenty of humour and I especially liked the road trip and the Film Premiere at the end, though was disappointed when went to the film showings and was nothing like that. If had gone to midnight showing it would def have been better and something will do for this year i think.
