This book explores what it means to be a fangirl and what it means to be a feminist in a brilliant, easy-to-relate-to way. It celebrates geekdom and encourages you to embrace you fandoms and never, ever be ashamed of what you love.
This book is so amazing, I can't even. Everyone needs it in their life.
I really hesitated to buy this book because "I don't need a book to tell me how to be a geek" plus from what I understand there has been a lot of female bias about what it actually MEANS to be a female [lolol] but this read really gave me a self-esteem boost, some desperately needed coping skills, and I am also reminded that I am not alone in the geek community.
As for the book itself, it was so well constructed. The bits about the types of trolls, about not taking anyone's bullshit to heart all really hit me. I was just gleeful to own a copy and feel that support. A perfect gift for someone who doesn't get your fangirl-ness, really. I am thinking of gifting a copy to people who give me odd looks for my fangirl lifestyle, but that's what it is!
I also won a poster for preordering which is the cover and hangs on my door. I just fell in love with Sam and her truly great book.
It's quite loose and fun really.
The little animations here and there were enjoyable and the dialogue was amazing.
Even if you are a fangirl and know your ways (like me) should definitely check it out.
Not many of my friends are fangirls and it's super hard to explain everything (because explaining to non-fangirl friends is extremely hard) especially since they always ask questions. I found the antics for getting friends into this stuff seems pretty good so yeah.... its an amazing book and needs more love
