About the Author
Juan Durán, composer Born in Vigo (Spain) in 1960, he is the founder of the Galician Association of Composers and has written more than one hundred works. He writes chamber, vocal, symphonic and stage music, as well as didactic works, arrangements and Galician music orchestrations. A music graduate, from 1987 to 1997 he taught at the Conservatory of A Coruña. He is currently a member of their Education Inspectorate team. In the year 2000, he was awarded the Composition Prize by the Carlos III University of Madrid for his work Álbum para Orquesta .In 2005 he released his reconstruction of the opera Inés e Bianca by the great composer Martial del Adalid for the Galician Government. In 2008, he premiered his opera O arame on the libretto by Manuel Lourenzo (National Theater Award), which was given the Galician Critics Award. That year, he won First Prize for Composition from the Galician Music Bands Federation with his symphonic poem O soño de Breogán. In 2010 he began a special collaboration with the great international soprano Cristina Gallardo-Domás. He recorded a CD of Galician songs and arrangements of Chilean music with her, and he is currently preparing a song cycle for her. In 2011, he won the Composition Prize at the International Festival of Spanish Music in León, with his symphony 4 elementos, and he was a finalist in the IV International Sacred Music Prize with his motet for chorus and orchestra, Noso Pai. He has been a member of the Council for Galician Culture since 2010.
