"Fantasia Impromptu" is a collection of Benjamin DeCassere's most intimate thoughts and ponderings that he wanted to share with the world and did so in a series of booklets released during his influential career as a writer, critic, and commentator. Though how much fame and recognition they gained prior to his departure into the Oblivion he so loved and admired is little known, and possibly for the better. Works like this are, as he would agree and have it, typically the kind to be reserved for discussion between very cultured minds and the aristocratic daredevils he felt to be kindred spirits with. The insights and musings in "Fantasia Impromptu" can only come from a man who embraced tragedy and comedy as one and the same and who chuckled at the woes of the low-caste over a glass of bourbon while penning down his latest lightening-bolt of a thought.
"FINIS" is a series of poems that in a post-Nietzschean spirit welcome the embrace to a yet higher negation published by his wife just shortly after his death. Though DeCasseres had not intended them to be his last hurrah, one can easily imagine him having a stirring in that whirlpool of a mind he possessed that his final winter of the spirit had descended upon him as he set down pen to paper for his final transvaluation and stamp on humanity.
Can't recommend this enough to friends or those curious about the man. Underworld Amusements yet again knocks another one out of the park for bringing this work to the eyes and minds of "posterity".
