Fair. I left the comics scene some years ago and had not been paying much attention to what has been published in recent years. But occasionally someone would mention the comics produced by Noah Van Sciver so I figured I'd give one of his books a look. I was pleasantly surprised. So much of the material recommended to me turns out to be bland and otherwise uninspired. Not with Van Sciver's comics. His artwork is pleasant to the point of producing a kind of nostalgic beauty.
The story here of a whining loser seems pedestrian on the surface but is so representative of the pathetic, self-centered, self-published and micro-published losers that one encounters in the writing community that it ultimately succeeds. The addition of a particularly funny episode in the storyline does much to add needed overt humor to the tale (which it was sorely lacking).
If you don't mind reading a story on a tired theme you will probably like this.
