The game system in Far Cry 5 is very similar to Far Cry 4. Most of the changes represent slight improvements. For example, Far Cry 5 adopted about the same set of controls for driving as Grand Theft Auto, to give you better control over the car. Hunting was introduced in Far Cry 3, improved a bit in Far Cry 4, and now you can also fish. Far Cry 4 allowed you to fly a small helicopter but Far Cry 5 has other aircraft such as fixed wing planes, with simpler controls than Grand Theft Auto. While Far Cry 4 let you sometimes use a mercenary to help you take down outposts, Far Cry 5 lets you use a variety of helpers such as a dog and a pilot who gives air support to help with all missions, big and small.
Everything about the game says quality. Even the music is good, with a lot of music from the game's cult group that sounded much like the recordings by the Manson Family. Well, it's back to bashing in Peggy heads with a large steel pipe!
Although people thought setting FarCry in the US would be controversial, I can't say I find it any worse than the fact that you're playing a game where you kill a lot of people. This time its Americans. I personally think it would be hypocritical if you had a problem with that, but were ok with the previous FarCrys where you kill non-Americans. Yes, they poke fun at the alt-right. However, they poke fun at a lot of folks, and to me, that's a big fun part of the game.
Leveling up is a bit of a grind. Weapon variety is somewhat weak. One of the best guns in the game you get right away, so the rest seem meh.
I like the changes- fishing, finding prepper caches, and flying airplanes.
the game is beautiful and there is nothing better then to fly around in a chopper or plane and discover a beautiful mountain lake, quickly land and go fly fishing or hunt some animals. Fly Fishing is surprising fun and doesn't quickly get old like I thought it would.
Having sidekicks is fun and helps you get out of sticky situations when enemies tend to swarm
Missions are varied enough that they didn't feel too repetitive.
Some people don't like the story very much but I love it. Feels just like Handmaids Tale and other dystopian fundamentalist stories
Weapons are highly varied and able to be upgraded, making it so you can approach the game stealthily or guns blazing
The loot boxes were surprisingly fun to get
Fire and explosives are very well done. Plenty of ways to cause big explosions and fire behaves very accurately, as it spreads and it's easy to catch fire.
Lots of ways to cover the big map with helpicopers, planes and fast traveling
There are several cons but non are really deal killers
While explosions and fire are well done, bullets don't accurately destroy things or go through trees and objects. Also animals seem to wear bullet proof vests.
I don't mind swearing but the swearing gets a little bit over the top, especially from your sidekicks. Wish there was a way to just temporarily shut them up.
Kind of annoying when the game decides to force a story mission at you out of the blue. You could be in the middle of nowhere in your helicopter and it just randomly forces you into a story mission
Faith is super beautiful and I wish they would have made her story different. Like you save her from the cult and get married or something.
In summary this is the most fun I've had in the Far Cry series in quite a long time. Love the game and even with a few drawbacks, it's a game of the year contender for me. And screw people that use religion for their own sick and twisted delusions. This stuff isn't as far fetched as you would think
