With this versatile Farberware Classic Series Stainless Steel Stack 'N' Steam 3-Quart Covered Saucepot and Steamer, it's easy to boil, heat, steam and simmer a variety of foods. Bring water to the boil in the saucepot, and then add broccoli, Chinese dumplings or tamales to the steamer basket. Without the steamer insert, this is also an excellent saucepot for cooking polenta, boiling yams or heating soups. Farberware has been trusted for over 100 years, and this stacking steamer continues that tradition for a new generation. A full cap base featuring a thick aluminum core surrounded by stainless steel provides rapid, even heating. Heavy-duty stainless steel is polished to a mirror finish for a classic touch, and this stacking steamer can be used with or without the steamer insert. The comfortable handles with iconic styling provide a confident grasp, and a self-basting lid helps seal in heat and moisture. This stacking steamer is dishwasher safe and oven safe to 350°F, plus this steamer works beautifully alongside all Farberware collections pots and pans. Steam and cook foods with this versatile Farberware Classic Series Stainless Steel Stack 'N' Steam 3-Quart Covered Saucepot and Steamer that features the familiar profile that families have treasured for decades.
Functional as well as beautiful, this 3-quart saucepot and 2-quart steamer insert are made of heavy 18/10 stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. The pot has an aluminum core in its base to spread heat quickly and evenly. The core is completely clad in stainless steel so, like the rest of the pot and the steamer, the pot bottom resists corrosion and discoloring and cleans up easily. Thick rolled rims add durability and make it possible to pour from the pot without dripping. Because the pot is 4-1/2 inches deep and comes with a tight-fitting, domed lid, it is roomy enough to simmer stocks and soups and can also be used for braising veal shanks or for cooking chili on the stovetop or in the oven. (The handles are oven-safe to 350 degrees F and stay cool on the stovetop.) The pot and steamer are dishwasher-safe and come with a lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred BrackSee all Product description

I ordered this specifically for the steamer basket that is included.
There isn't a good picture of the steamer online so I uploaded my own customer image.
I ordered this yesterday and received it today using super saver shipping. I have already used it and it is exactly what I wanted to steam my carrots, broccoli, and red potatoes.
I am also pleasantly surprised by the thickness of the pan. Also, I'm happy the lid is not glass. I just think everything about it is awesome. Please see my uploaded customer images.
In the reviews there are allegations that the material is not stainless steel. To test the steel composition all that is needed is a magnet. Using a strong magnet reveals that the components are slightly attractive to the magnet, confirming that all are indeed stainless steel. The very best stainless will have no attraction to the strongest of magnets, so this is consistent with the grade of stainless claimed in the description.
Durability: I haven't had my set for even a month yet so I cannot offer anything here other than the obvious. I expect if I use this assembly over a forge and let it go dry, it will take on the appearance that one reviewer posted photos of. Grade school science should have taught us that water can only reach 212° F (100° C), beyond which there will only be invisible steam. Obviously, the vessel will no longer have any liquid water to cool it and away we go!
UPDATE: The identical replacement functions correctly and is not defective. The handles are secure and the stainless steel exterior is stylish. My photograph displays steamed kale.
As some reviewers have mentioned, the pot base stained right after the first steaming. Even with immediate cleaning, the marks were lightly seen. The second time I used it, I added a thin slice of lime to the water in the pot (as I usually do for the pressure cooker). No stains! So water stains is not a problem at all. In fact, after use, the steamer looks as clean as before, even with a water rinse. But I do use dish soap for psychological reasons.
I had also read about the ears getting hot and making it difficult to hold the steamer basket while emptying the vegetables to another vessel. They do get hot but I found them very bearable hot. May be, my heat threshold is high. Over all, I love the functional part of this steamer most, not to forget the finish. The quality of steel seems to be good. To date, it still looks new and shiny. I find it the best value for money. Would strongly recommend this to any one looking for a steamer for a family of two/three (you could steam multiple times if needed for additional members).
