I'm honestly pretty surprised at myself for finishing this book. At about one third the way through I'd really had it, but since I agreed to give an honest review, I stuck it out. Toward the ending of the book, at least something happened that didn't have to do with sex, and it improved the story marginally. The tone of the book changed completely, though not all that much for the better. At least I can justify one more star for the rating just for an attempt at a storyline.
I found the plot extremely weak and the characters unbelievable and unappealing. But it was mostly the stupidity of the whole thing that annoyed me. The author was contradictory from one sentence to the next, leading me to wonder if she actually read what she'd just written.
This is supposedly a love story between two people who meet in a taxi when Reid gets into Stevie's cab one evening. She is naturally beautiful, and within minutes of meeting two things happen. One is that she starts referring to him as a billionaire to his face, even though he never said anything about himself other than he has a business, and the second is that they pop into a dark alley and have unprotected sex up against a wall. It is supposedly the best sex ever for both of them. Shaking my head here... it made me want to gag a little. I wondered if he were famous, and she recognized him, and that's how she knew he was a billionaire, but then she asked him his last name, so it was just her assumption that he never denies.
Soon after this, she meets his best friend Dylan, and despite the fact that Dylan does his best to humiliate her, she finds herself wildly attracted to him as well. She also starts referring to him as a billionaire, despite knowing absolutely nothing about him other than he wears expensive jeans and is Reid's friend. I totally do not get this. Apparently "billionaire" in the author's mind is someone who dresses in nice clothes and has a job, Wow.
The book is really a vehicle for sex scenes, and as a reader who enjoys reading a good one, I have to say they let me down almost every time. Quantity does not mean quality, dear author. And for some totally unknown reason, just calling someone "Sir" or "Master" probably doesn't turn women on as much as she'd like us to believe. Reid goes from telling her to call him by name to calling him "Master" and the whole thing comes across as sex written by an adolescent. It's just plain silly. I gagged again a bit. And any guy who ties a woman up without asking permission within hours of meeting her is NOT someone worth pursuing.
The contradictions I mentioned earlier abound. Reid first tells her he loves hearing her make noise, then he gags her and tells her not to make a peep when he removes the gag, but within seconds he is ordering her to beg loudly. He tells her he loves it when she begs. Oh ugh. Make up your mind. The author also says Stevie didn't pack any of her sexy underwear, but miraculously the next day she is wearing sexy panties. So... which is it? Later she goes back to her apartment and picks up her sexy stuff.
Naturally Dylan is thrown into the mix so they can carry on a threesome. And this arrangement seems pretty poorly concocted. It also resulted in what seemed to me as totally devoid of any care for Dylan's feelings by the other two. He's just a toy apparently. Oh, excuse me... a Billionaire Toy.
I got the feeling that the author had a checklist of things that were supposed to make these people interesting and the story compelling. Billionaires. Beautiful, headstrong woman. BDSM (was that even what this was supposed to be??). Threesome. But what I got out of it was: three people repeatedly having unprotected sex with a stranger and the main male character professing undying love after about a day and a half. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
The ARC has some serious editing issues. Perhaps these will be corrected before it goes public.
Before I wright the review; this is not just a romance, it contains BDSM, m/m and ménage.
Stevie drives a cab and on the night she finds her boyfriend cheating on her she ends up in a dark alley with a stranger enjoying her first time ever seduced by one of her fares. But it doesn't stop there........
Some books are in my opinion meant to have a deeper meaning, and som are for entertainment only. On that note I feel like this is in the last category and I was truly entertained.
One thing bothered me and that was a scene where Stevie was tied up by Reid and he used a ball gag without discussing any of this with her. When there is scenes involving this grade of BDSM I like to read that there is safety and communication before such a scene. For me it was the thing that made it 4 not 5 stars.
There's feelings in this book but they're more hot than sweet. That's totally fine with me because that's what I expect from this author.
The writing style is easygoing and filled with dialogues so I enjoyed this story very much.
There's many things I could have questioned about this story but I choose to see this as a story where the author has made use of artistic freedom and I enjoyed the story to the fullest.
I truly recommend this if you're looking for a easy and hot story.
From the moment Reid Jacobs plants himself into Stevie's cab he is completely taken with her, there is something so innocent and pure about her that intrigues him, makes him want to learn everything there is to learn about her, so he makes her an offer she can't really refuse. And the moment he does both their worlds are turned upside down...
I devoured this naughty little page turned in a day, once I got started it was so hard to stop, had to know what would happen with these two!! I'll admit the story took an unexpected turn I wasn't expecting, one that involved a little trio action, but nonetheless it turned out to be a good read. The chemistry between Reid & Stevie was undeniable, their relationship was intensely passionate, raw, and filled with lots of steamy action that left me blushing more than a few times! If you like your fairy tales a little on the naughty side, then I highly recommend you pick this one up, Ms. Carew's spicy story line is sure to give you what you want... and then some!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title!!
