Fantastic composer and a fantastic score. Let's make it clear. This is the score for season two, not the soundtrack. It's the original music composed by Jeff Russo. The classic songs from the 70's that accompany the score aren't on this CD. If you want to hear the songs, such as Yama Yama, Whatcha See if Whatcha Get, Sylvia's Mother, etc. you'll have to buy the CD with songs from Fargo Season 2. I think some reviews have been negative because people were expecting to get the soundtrack with everything. People forget how well the score echoes the themes and characters, my favorite being the drums for Peggy Stabs Hanzee.

If you were wondering why there was no track listing on the Amazon site, it'c because a number of the good songs are not in this CD. In particular, if you thought you would get the unplugged version of "run through the jungle", you are in for a disappointment. The tracks of this CD are mediocre.

Wer erinnert sich nicht gerne an die Zeit, in der wirklich originelle Soundtrack-Compilations wie Tarantinos PULP FICTION, JACKIE BROWN und Coens BIG LEBOWSKI oder später auch der (besonders in den USA) sehr erfolgreiche O BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU erschienen. Wer die Karriere der Coen-Brüder verfolgt, kennt die originelle und oft skurille Auswahl der Songs in ihren Filmen. Und dieser Soundtrack erfüllt diese Kategorien voll und ganz: Noah Hawleys sensationell gute Serie FARGO (bis dato beide Staffeln) braucht sich nicht hinter TRUE DETECTIVE oder BREAKING BAD zu verstecken, sie ist absolut ebenbürtig!!!

Die Coen-Brüder (für die TV-Serie als Executive Producer tätig) standen nicht nur Pate, sie werden in dieser zweiten Serienstaffel (die 1979 spielt) wieder laufend zitiert – und zelebriert! Diese Song-Compilation bietet neben Hits & Raritäten aus den Siebzigern auch 2015/16 eingespielte Neuinterpretationen bekannter Songs aus den früheren Coen-Filmen:
Die "vermeintlichen Vorlagen" von Track 3, 10 und 13 findet man in O BROTHER..., Track 9 in FARGO (dem Kinofilm von 1996), 12 in MILLERS CROSSING und 7 in RAISING ARIZONA. Allen Fans von BIG LEBOWSKI sei Track 11 ein Hörbefehl (sonst rastet Walter Sobchak aus, drängt dazu, eine Null aufzuschreiben oder beißt wieder ein Ohr ab!). Dazu sorgen das japanisch-französische "Yama Yama", Billy Thorpe und Bobby Womack für ein schräges Seventies-Revival. Ich prophezeie hiermit nicht die Kuh auf dem Dach (siehe O BROTHER...), sondern dass der eine oder andere Song dieser Compilation in nächster Zeit Marketing-Leute zu entsprechender Untermalung von TV-Werbespots inspirieren wird. Ich persönlich würde auf Automarken-TV-Spots tippen ; )

Fazit: Die Formel "Seventies-Treasures" + "Coen-Hommage" ergibt die beste Song-Complation seit Jahrzehnten, in den USA schon auf vielen Studentenfeten Pflichtprogramm, in "good old Europe" noch ein Geheimtipp. Allein für die Coverversionen von White Denim (Seventies-Rock-Version von "George Clooneys" Radiohit im Film O Brother...) und Blitzen Trapper (Lebowski meets Disco) lohnt sich der Kauf. Selten hat Qualitäts-TV einen ebenso guten, schrägen und kultigen "Songtrack" hervorgebracht wie diesen hier!
